Suggestion: I think you should have let the characters unfold by themselves without any introduction. Who is going to remember any ot these characters except perhaps the one important protagonist...(see? I already forget her name. and there are so very many people with the same last name....I cannot remember any of them. Sorry. I suggest you simply give them titles at the bottom of each chapter as you add them to the story as I have done with my book. That way, the reader will tend to remmeber them all. Like this. Shana Kohlberg...twenty-five protagonist Tomas Kohlberg...Whatever etc.

Thank you for the encouragement I don't like running a list at the end of each post. I wouldn't do that for a novel so refuse to do it here. I know people won't remember everything but it does hook them. I do it more for me to keep me honest in my writing.

Given that Nazi theft of Jewish art has been covered in books, films, and documentary you will have to provide a new twist--something that will set it apart in this Holocaust sub-genre. I had a Jewish aunt who survived the Holocaust to tell her own story of Nazi theft of her family's possessions. Are you writing your book inspired by family stories or by other books on the subject? Have you read books about Nazis looting Jewish art? I applaud you for tackling a subject totally different from a Texas romance. You have your work cut out for you to bring something fresh to this sub-genre.

This sounds intense and perhaps depressing in many parts. Why must stories have bad guys? I've written seven novels, and only one had a bad guy--Detour (Carlo, drug lord, but never threatened the protagonist). The Demon series had Lucifer, but he's just an ineffectual buffoon and source of humor.
I'd rather have no good guys and bad guys, but have "the enemy within"... the flaw inside that we all have to overcome. More drama, I think, and easier to relate to. Not many people have to fight Nazis anymore.
Disney always has villains in kids' movies, and that bugs me. It teaches kids that problems are someone else's fault, and there's always a bad person to blame. You can see that it's a problem in our culture of victimhood.
Fact is most problems we encounter come from our own behaviors, actions, thoughts. I like to write books that show a person growing and becoming a better person by events that give him/her a chance to rise to challenges. Never fighting a bad guy. So I may not read it. Sorry, but I really don't like villains.
I especially don't want to read about Nazis. We defeated the Nazis and didn't learn a damn thing about how they came to power. THe Z in Nazi stands for socialist. It's true. Anytime you have one person or a small group of people imposing their own values on the citizenry, it will end in failure...with much misery along the way. People vote these leaders in, and then live with regret. Why can't we LEARN from history?? But that's a separate topic.

There is no way to spin away a villain. It seems novels here are romances, mystery/detective, or stories with villains. It's very common. So you're certainly not alone, and I'm sure you'll have lots of happy readers. Good luck and have fun. :)

This sounds promising. I will be watching for the first chapter. I like how you cover various cultural groups in your stories. Understanding and tolerance comes when we experience life through the stance of other and reading places us in that position.
