Hello, sweetie pie,
How is it going? How was your Halloween? Mine was great, wish you and your lady could have gone out with us. We had fun. I bought my own candy because I am too old to beg for it. Damn it. Chocolate anything is my choice of poison.
I really like your potlatch challenge write. It gave me a little peak of what it was like to be a little Mikey in the sixties. I know that society has changed quite a bit.
Take care, brother Mike, luv ya

This was really interesting to read! I never got to enjoy "lollygagging"! Even when I was young trick or treating was only from 5 to 7 and then everyone turned off their lights! Great job on this!

This made me smile. Yes, in the 'old' days, it was so much better. And that is not just nostalgia. It is true. I read online that somewhere in Texas, dressing as a cowboy or an Indian is forbidden. So, nowadays, your little six-year old self would be arrested for being Wyatt Earp. Lol. Good story, tho even in the old days, I don't believe that the parents went to bed before the little ones came home. Teens, yes. Little kids, no. Tho, I will say that I think you are shamelessly using Mr. Snodgrass to make a point about a different and safer world.
Good, well written story.

This is an enjoyable read about the old days, Mikey :) I'm guessing your trick or treating never had to deal with snow and cold temperatures? Living in Manitoba in the Canadian prairies, it was always cold. brrrrrr
- "Pabst Blue Ribbon (bear)." - should that be beer?

Halloween has transformed over the years, sort of like you said. Little kids going to the malls rather than through their own subdivisions, and the older kids who were once considered too old, roaming the streets all night, at least where I live. Thanks for another fine read. :-)

Mikey,
You've brought back memories I had forgotten. Not the least of which, of course, is lollygagging. I, too, engage in this sport frequently. I am an ace on my team. What position do you play?
A couple of notes:
1.) with a dribbling gulp of Pabst Blue Ribbon bear.
--> is 'bear' a new drink? *smile*
2.) I imagine trust issues and a (wary) older eye
Cool stuff! Thanks!

The question is whether Linda Lee thought you a treat or a trick. I simply couldn't take part this week we just didn't "do" Halloween. Anyway I did post Trump and the Pumpkin Heads earlier in the day so that was my contribution. I can just imagine you as Wyatt Earp, Mikey taking charge of your town. You haven't grown up have you? Lol.

A very well-written memoir of what the original purpose of Halloween was and how it is today more conscious of security as about the fun and treats that are collected.

Lollygagging - what an old time word, haven't heard that in years, but I think it could mean anything that you wanted it to mean. I'll take your word on the Wyatt Earp tactic working I reckon.
Your Mum sounds like she was dressed up even if she wasn't mike, good memories to look back on.
cheers,
valda

You really are a great read at theses memoir type pieces. The set up is hilarious. It sounds horid, yet it is totally true.
You do bring me in and for me, take me home. Those were the days, and I LOVE remembering and reliving them here.
