The art work is very powerful
for these words written
Yes many suffered and many
have died in many wars .
Many were young some older as well
They gave up their lives for us all.

Excellent. Well penned with a great message as well as perfect form and flow with great choice of rhyming words. Not always easy to keep such a nice flow with this poetry type.

This is a great Villanelle Kim and so very apt in today's world. Your repeating lines work very well and are, justly so, the crux of this poem. Indeed they are questions society should ask. Great job with this one,
cheers,

Hi Valda!
Thank you so much for the wonderful review. I appreciate the kind words. No country stands without the men and woman who defend their faith, so to speak. They deserve the utmost respect. :)
Have a great day!

Yes, I agree with the point of your well-written Villanelle. In the United States, ever since Johnson's Vietnam fiasco to distract the American people from his crookedness, our brave soldiers have lost the respect certainly due them for the sacrifices they made -- entirely voluntarily, once the Draft ended. These loyal young men and women did not start the many wars they have had to fight, but too often get blamed for them anyway (especially Vietnam vets). It is all part of the New world Order plan to destroy our culture and country, as the self-appointed elites hate freedom. You make your case well here. Superb.

Maybe its because we know those battles were unnecessary..non-justified..and aggression rather than defense.
Still..you are right..he traded his youth and lost his spirit and we, as a country are to blame.
Important issue we seem to often forget.

Hi Nika,
I believe we should be respecting our soldiers more, as they are the reason we enjoy the freedoms we still hold. I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. Thank you for fine comments and review.

Only if the war is legitimate defense..but soldiers should always have respect..

My freedom does not arise from wars in Afghanistan or Iraq...What did Viet Nam have to do with my freedom? WWI AND I YES...not Korea either...nor Panama or Grenada..!
Comment from Irish Rain
Amen. When my father returned from Vietnam, after three tours, with a spear driven up his leg...nobody thanked him. The country was protesting Vietnam. And it was a wrong war. But the soldiers were doing as they were told, for America, they thought. A shame the way veterans are treated. Great poem, blessings...

Hi Irish,
Thank you so much for sharing that story of your father. It would make for an excellent poem from your point of view. I appreciate the excellent review and comments.

What a lovely poem paying homage to our military.
It's so sad that "we" don't show them the respect they are due. It's not like we felt after WWII. We welcomed them home with ticker tape parades. They were heroes. Today, they're looked on by too many as villains.
You've sent a good message out today. 8-)

I think respect is a commodity in great shortage in our country today, on so many levels. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment today.

Excellently done villanelle and the message you presented with the strengthening repeating phrases makes it an excellent question.
Very well done

Hello, Kim.
Not only is this a very well constructed Villanelle, it also happens to be very true with the poignantly pertinent message it conveys.
All too often no one cares the about the reasons "how" or "why" they enjoy the freedoms they do today.
They do because of the sacrifices of so very many who did their duty to honor God and their country.
Lest we forget...

Hi Dean,
The lack of respect that runs rampant in our society today dismays me greatly. If we could simply turn back the clock to days when gratitude was truly expressed I think many issues could be resolved.
Thank you for this most excellent review. I appreciate your comments and the cool graphic!!

You have written a Villanelle that follows the form, as near as I can tell,
and has a valid message also. Looks like an excellent post to me.
