Well done Debbie, many of the sufferings of the dear soldiers returning from these wars, if not bearing physical scars, certainly bear the unseen mental scars. The WW1 returnees certainly endured them, and nobody understood them, but now they do! Well done, thanks once again for writing about these afflictions, you are a wonderful literary advocate for these things, keep it up my friend, Blessings, Roy

It's such a shame and I'm not sure most wars accomplish anything. They just lead to more hatred and more death. Thank you, my friend. Have a blessed day~Debbie

Good stream of consciousness. Certainly, those who signed on might have had visions of being a hero. The war certainly changes soldiers physically and emotionally. They are ruined for life. You bring this across. So sad.

Silence of the Lambs:

" Tell me, Senator. Did you nurse Catherine yourself?
"What?" -
" Did you breast-feed her?"
Now, wait a minute. -
"Yes, I did..."
"Toughened your nipples, didn't it?"

You son of a bitch!

"Amputate a man's leg and he can still feel it tickling.
Tell me, Mom, when your little girl is on the slab, where will it tickle you?"

Having been a sufferer of PTSD myself, Debbie, and knowing a few guys who lost their limbs in battle, and in some cases their lives, I felt this was a very accurate description of the sorts of thought processes one goes through when faced with this sort of loss.
Yours was a hard-hitting, very touching, and well written story.
Good work.

Deb: you totally nailed the before and after. So many vets have mental illness and no one to help them. They try and the pain goes on. Many places are waiting lines with disability and mental health. Then there is the family and children. How can he run after the kids? Great story! flylikeaneagle

I found this very moving Debbie, and well written. You of all people can understand what these young men and women go through emotionally and physically.

I felt I was right there as I read this.

Thanks for sharing.

Debbie,

You write this in such a realistic way. It's like you interviewed a soldier or something! You really got into the head of this character and brought it to life. So sad! Thanks?

Great story. Our young men face the horror of going to war on a daily basis. I'm glad you brought it to everyones attention. I posted "Police Action" A story about a Vietnam vet. Give it a read.

Hi Debbie,
this really is a sad story, and all to often men are left with mental and physical scars that most of us cannot comprehend. Yet we still send our young men off to fight another's cause. Will we ever learn and more importantly will they ever be treated with the compassion and respect they deserve. A great but sad read.

A well - eritten Sunday Prose Potlatch- topic. Your words are very realistic and very true. The families of the wounded vets are just as hurt as their loved one. They have to try to pick up the pieces and put them back together. Not understanding hoe to even start!
