I really love this! It is straight and to the point, a lot like me. It has all the correctness for the contest. I find it extremely creative and enjoyable.

Thank you, Helene. Your words are so encouraging and the extra star twinkles so brightly on the page! I am truly honored that you would share one of these precious jewels with me!

I like the alliteration and rhyme in this (and bonus points for going above the contest requirements of just two lines rhyming).

I'm not sure if the second line means that the narrator is pretending through/at events because of the fading memory or that the narrator finds some events to now be charades (because of the wisdom of age). Either interpretation though works.

I'm afraid I don't understand the symbolism of the ace of spades in the last line. What did you mean by that?

Thank you, Julia. The ace of spaces historically has been considered a good luck charm. There are, however, other interpretations.

The rhyme adds a sense of whimsy to this brief poem on aging. Especially enjoyed the line "I pretend through life's charades." This "pretend" could be intentional (tired of going through the motions) or a sign of aging's memory loss. Clever.

Thank you. I will leave the interpretation to the reader- glad you interpreted it both ways!

Old age will do that to you.

And make you do odd things as well.

The mind has a unique way of playing tricks on the body as you age.

Should be a good entry into this contest.

There is a nice rhythm to your piece, and the triple rhyme holds it all together sweetly. A touch of poignancy in the subject matter, too. No doubt others will relate as I do to the 'waiting for the ace of spades' theme.

Good luck.

Steve

Mystery Writer,

All too true, my friend. They say wisdom comes with age, if you can remember it...

Syllable count is good.

Alliteration is in place.

Good job. Best of luck to you in the contest.
