Very good ideas here from little minds (and from the imagination of a writer). I have a master's in early childhood education--not working now not a lot of jobs out there that a 51 can do I guess--but I substituted and I remember being in the classroom. I would have loved to teach this lesson.

Everyone seems to have ideas on what we need to make a better world, but no one has any practical ideas that work. Maybe we'll just have to make the best of what we have.

Nice story, getting kids excited enough to speak and really enjoy themselves is really tiring but definitely satisfying. Thanks for the share!

It was a good idea to let the children speak in your story. They usually have fresh, interesting and funny opinions about everything.
Nice story!

Good story, but the ending fell a little flat for me. Short stories should have some kind of twist or a surprise ending. Maybe Tom could have provided that.

This story offers a realistic picture of life in an early school classroom. The key to success with many children is giving them responsibility and the teacher found this to work in her lesson. The ideas suggested by the presidents would certainly make the world a better place.

Oh, this sounds like an experienced teacher wrote it. I was right there with you. After 46 years in a classroom like that, I know just how frustrating and demanding a difficult class can be.

You probably named the reason why the class were so restless:Despite her youth, she was a very traditional teacher and didn't like trying out new things. One of our sins - not adapting to the landscape/kidscape in front of us.

And when she did follow Nuala's advice, things started popping because the kids were involved. No matter how you do a game like that, the answers will be something like what you expressed. I did like the heavy kid's centre of thinking.

And Tom, such a lovely, dangerous name ... every classsroom has a Tom, and he always affirms that you will never name your child Tom, or similar.

Placing his cynical, hyperactive persona in the mix of this story gave it real guts. You need a nemesis, an irritant to make a story work. Imagine a classroom of angels. The teacher would never have left her safe methods and no story would exist.

Nice writing with a good mix of prose and dialogue to keep the narrative rolling. A fine idea for the topic and I'd suggest a very original approach.

I wish you well for the vote.
