You expressed a complaint that a lot of people share with you -- especially those of us who are old enough to remember the time before cell phones. I love the quiet of early morning when traffic isn't moving and all is at peace.

Haaaa! ... I like your ending! After bitching about train paradise lost forever, you have to excuse yourself to take a call ... LOL
I enjoyed your write, Harry Trumfio. It is true ... one can no longer ride a bus or subway or be in any public place ,for that matter, without hearing people talking on their cell phones, hence disturbing our own peace and quiet. What was initially used more for emergency purposes and then for business is now being used constantly by anyone and everyone for the most idle gossip, etc.
This is an excellent entry for the contest. Best wishes!

You said it! And another annoying thing about cell phones is that everyone feels the need to shout their conversation. Arrrgh!
Also, trying to watch out for drivers who have one stuck to their ear and not paying attention. I have a cell phone I keep on all the time because I'm afraid I'll miss a call about my 94 year old mother when I'm away. But I don't shout, and I wear a blue tooth in the car. Besides, I drive a manual and couldn't shift holding a cell phone. LOL.
You made great points. 8-)

Thanks for the read. I keep my cell phone in the car and never take it out. That way I'm not bothered with calls.

I enjoyed reading your pet peeve about the cell phone. We can never go back to the well-described train journey we enjoyed in the past. But we must move with the times and put up with the irritations, and of course the benefits.
Well written, good luck in the contest, Mary

Thanks for the read. I now listen to audio books or music to quell the savage sounds.

Well, I don't have to take the train ride, but I am a teacher, so I can certainly empathise with your version of Hell, and I'm sure many others will as well. I liked the light-hearted touch about the ending.
You use hyperbole to good effect to communicate your feelings, provide some balance with the list of reasonable uses for the infernal device, and overall, offer a good read.
Good luck.

I think you completed the challenge of this contest well. I have to agree with you on the cell phone issue. You know the really bad thing here where I live in the mountains there is no reception! In the whole town of Manton there are three spots miles apart where you can get reception. So in an emergency (Which is the only reason I would ever have one!] You are better off to walk to someone's home then to where you could get reception.

Winnona, Thanks for your read and your rating. Your home is what I would call beautiful isolation. I know you must enjoy your peaceful surroundings. But, I believe every location must have some disadvantage, no cell phone service seems to be a minor matter.

This is great on the pet peeve. I can't believe how people can't seem to get by without it attached to their ear. I hate when at the store, the cashier can't even cash you out without talking on one., with cell phones comes rudeness.good luck on this.
