Did we wrestle earthly greeds
and cross each bridge whereas it stood.
Did we fill some others needs
and smell sweet flowers in the woods?
I love this wrestle earthly greeds.... did we fill some others needs..
Yes yes
Well penned fromthe overflow of a godly life
God bless

yes, some wondrous power above has given us strength to challenge every hardship and cross every bridge with or without friends
the even lines and alternate rhymes increase the enjoyment of this poem.

I enjoyed your poem, Jay. Your lines flow well with good rhymes. The message is clear and is expressed in a great way. We should all do as you mentioned. Thanks for sharing. Jan

As you sir, my husband and I realize how numbered are our days. And we do take stock. WE're blessed to know Jesus and know His forgiveness through the cross. I look back at the years of raising four sons and helping raise grandkids - realize how blessed we have been. Then there's all the great friends who've been faithful pray-ers and mentors. In a week we'll be married 60 years - those years flew by so quick. Sometimes I sit and think of all the generations who have come before -- how they went through their trials.
Perhaps in some way our writings (I've been writing and being published for way over 40 years) will be a remembrance.
Yours will be, I can see that. Great job.

Very thoughtful , expressing the ultimate truth.
It connects so well with the readers. The icing on the cake are these lines-
When our turn has come to go
and life's joys and woes surcease;
We should then most surely know,
we shall have eternal peace.

A beutiful poem (treat each day as a treasure). And when you see the sunset, treat as an artist. And when you see a bird, marvel, at his freedom. Your poem brougt wonderful words, isn't it beautiful, to write poetry. A road not taken, is full of wildflowers. Beautiful poem.

You go, given statement thought-provoking in its consideration, pounding wisdom from a traveller, tired yet willing to reach that higher ground. I found this write an inspirational read, all stated in my opinion.

Very well said. It reminded me of the song "Stop and smell the roses". I esecially liked " Was there someone we could love who returned it every day, Did some wondrous power above lend us courage on the way?" Well done!

A lovely piece of philosophical poetry looking at the summation of a person's lifetime efforts and accomplishments. I imagine there's a certain amount of introspection at work here, which is only to be expected as we age.

Thanks also for the introduction to the word surcease. New to me.

The time of reckoning will come one day and your poem has in it something that urges the reader not to be found wanting. Our time here on earth is brief. It is good to make the best of it.
