wow. This was very moving, made me feel like I was there with you. seems like you were talking about me in my own life. Loved every word, would not change a thing. If you did it would probably change the exact feeling you had at that God giving moment in your life. It almost felt it was my life. You were speaking of. WOW... Nice!

This is truly a poem about overcoming. Your past lonely life has been overcome by the finding of faith.

The beginning is so dismal that the light at the end seems to much brighter
I like the use of both end and internal rhyme.

Good luck in the contest.

Keep writing

Joan

Good luck with this, my friend. Told eloquently and with good meaning. When an answer is found, let no man question, for faith is key, and salvation for many. Your faith shines, and so with it, peace in oneself and no more waiting on things that do not matter, for you are on higher ground.

Have a good Sunday, and good luck in the competition.

What a powerful poem! You always have the right choice of words and the wisdom to use them so at their best.

Redemption & salvation are pretty good ... eh??!!

Thank you, Roy. I think God said my wife needs to be irritated for several more years, so he kept me around to do the job!

A very good spiritual poem about overcoming the vice through trust in God and His help. Flawless meter and rhyme. Very spiritually soothing like all your work. This should be reached by addicts, I think it would provide enormous help.

I particularly liked

And yet somewhere, so deep, so dim,
I glimpse, a flash on hope's bright rim,
then, unannounced, a dazzling light,
lit up my soul, redeemed my sight.

Well done, my friend.

Hi, Roy. I got my new issue of six packs today :-) Happy to burn one on this terrific write. Love the AABB choice of rhyming construct. It gives each couplet a strong sense of completion and the second couplet almost becomes a volta. The sonnet-like feel continues throughout the piece. Wonderful pen. cheers - DJ

Thank you for your candor and compelling reflections. I admired your rhymed couplets in these rhythmic quatrains and your vivid "blame's cold flame" metaphor. Here's to grace! If I had a six, it would be yours. Best wishes in the contest and have a serene Sunday when it arrives- Joan

G'day Roy. Beautiful stuff once again, mate. I must admit that I had to google, "ken" and what a great choice to put that in, where you did.

It's seems so foreign when I look back on those dark old days, before I came to know, God. You are right about running from myself. The problem with that is that we could run forever, be there is nowhere to hide.

Great job, cobber.

Cheers Fez

This is a passionate and revealing glimpse of conversion. 'Doused in mists of rum', you are awoken by the light of Christ and your world is suddenly His. From there you've: grown in grace ...and... gained truth's ken. Wonderful imagery and fine verse support your story and all I can say is that the voice is joyous and appreciative. Inspiring stuff, Roy.

Thanks Mark for your supportive and self revelation with which you identify with, making, most non believers think it was me, can't relate on a higher plane, but it's still a seed, and someone else will water and God will provide the increase. Thanks my friend for the understanding and empathy, blessings, Roy
