This is a meaningful revelation to me Cynthia.

We moved to where our children live after we retired. Now they have grown and moved away and so what do we do?

We have made a life here but as we get older we wonder, should we move back to the little town we grew up in to be near family. But, like you, we have changed and so I'm not sure we fit there anymore either.

I thoroughly enjoyed your well written poem.

Blessings
Janet

Thank you for your thoughtful remarks. Yes, I have found that it is a trade-off, For me now since I am alone, I find that it is a warm and comfortable feeling to be near those I love. My great-grandchildren are still relatively young, and I enjoy them. I do miss so much of my former life though...things are different. Keep those connections if you do decide to move back. Best wishes.

What a beautiful poem that describes the maturation through life experiences the message of comming back home as a new creation after traveling through life is so profound. This is a very creative and clever poem. Really nice job, keep up the good work.

Such a true experience. I can relate to your sentiment. Returning to my country of birth, Poland a few years ago I was utterly surprised at how different the comfortd I mentally Harboured were. The seemingly huge house i grew up in was a tiny little box, the garden but a patch of grass. Change is inevitable. We must value the memories but embrace the new
Great piece

Nice flow with said views given by writer, deep message with slight sway from original start intensity; yet a basket of assorted scents to capture and time the wild in us. I found beautiful in thought.

G'day Cynthia. Very nicely done and the picture is the perfect compliment to the piece. We do change our way of thinking as we age, but deep down inside there is still glimpses of the kid that was, I feel.

Great little piece and good luck in your retirement.

Cheers Fez

This is a very nicely written free verse poem
Nothing ever remains exactly the same
Neither the place nor the observer
and often, it was never
as it is perceived in memory
Selective thoughts honed smooth by time
Excellent photograph to match your poem
Very nicely done

I did appreciate your reflections concerning my poem. You make an interesting point about our memory being "selective thoughts honed smooth by time." I had not quite thought of it in that way- would make an interesting topic for a piece, don't you think. Thank you again for reading my poem.

Life is like two trains stood side by side at a railway station. One moves off, but the people in those trains are not sure at first whether it is their train or the other one that is moving. You seem pretty sure it is yours but you can't be sure until something happens out and you see something different from the other train.

There juist could be a poem in there somewhere. I hope you weren't too disappointed coming home. A fine piece of free verse I thought.

There is a comfort level with the familiar but in this poem it is hard to tell if the familiar is comforting or convenient. Travelling and experiencing life outside of your hometown has broadened your look on life but it doesn't indicate whether or not your return to the hometown is comforting or convenient because you leave the reader with the information that you have changed even if your hometown stays the same.

Thank you for your review and for your comments. Returning has been both comforting and convenient; however, I have found it somewhat hard to adapt after being gone so long

Nostalgic and bittersweet poem. I like the form - long line followed by shorter lines. Well written, easy to read. It tells a nice story. I like where you say "hard to reconcile what I once knew", a sad realization after your return when you probably expected things to be the same as when you were a child. Thanks for sharing.:)
