Sir Jay,

I do believe that you have given your very best in life and although we
all have no guarantees of tomorrow, your thoughts conveyed here
in pleasant poetic form are so beautiful.

"fleeting flight" "flowers sway" "homage pay" all beautiful imagery and
alliteration, rhyme and very meaningful.

Linda

(I just visited my 84 year old mom and 91 year old dad today...although they seem
to be doing well, it almost felt like my mom was saying good-bye to me for the last time. We just don't know, do we?)

Jaybird1, this is a very emotive and soulful piece. I absolutely love it. I hope that as I get closer to meeting my maker, I will have so much dignity to feel this way. Perfect rhythm and rhyme and a great flow to the poem. Great job. God bless and hugs, Susanne

Wow, I was so happy to read your author's notes, my friend. Just for a moment there... I thought you were going. Great poem for a final hurrah... and even though sad, it was an uplifting poem, which indicates a person who has had a good life, and lived it respectfully... and is ready to leave with dignity. Thanks for sharing and warmest regards, Marijke :o)

Generally excellent tetrameter written in the sonnet form (usually pentameter), Jay. However, I did stumble on 2nd line where you break the pattern and start with an emphasised syllable (WATCH-ing) - easily sorted if you wish, by, 'I watch'.

Very nice wishes for your 'final farewell', and modest too.

Excellent.

Cheers, Ray.

Very nice farewell verse. Well done in verse and rhyme. I loved the bounce of the rhyme as you read the poem. The meaning you left with the reader, is direct and to the point. Leaves the reader with the message you intended to deliver. I liked it.

He will be there the instant you go ( I died once and HE was there) It is not scary at all- just perfect. My Creator held me in His hand for a brief moment.

Jay, so glad you're not leaving earth right away. Still we all must die some day. We just want to live the best life possible

What a lovely sonnet? where you bid life farewell. It has a very optimistic ring to it which is lovely in that circumstance. I liked your poem a lot. All the best. Ulla:)

Well--I'm glad you are not planning to go too soon, Jay! A wonderful poem of acceptance which comes to us from living life as we wanted it to be. Your first line says it all: "The very best, I gave of me,"
That's all we can strive to do. Well composed with a great message. Marilyn
