Hi, Treischel,
I feel your pain. I am bipolar and my wife is coping with some of the mental effects of a stroke. It is sometimes like we speak different languages. Trial and error is very painful when you are trying to understand each other without hurting each other. Trying to talk is sometimes frustrating and results in anger. Excellent poem, well said but you do not get six stars for suffering-- the human condition.
Your friend and colleague,
Preston

I'm sorry to hear of your family problems and I sincerely wish them well.
Life and relationship stresses can cause so much emotional, physical and mental pain.
Your poem is one I'm sure many can relate to as the poem unfolds.
I've been under those stresses myself many times.
A sad recount of the possible destruction of relationships and lives ids captured in an honest outpouring of concern.
:-) Shirley

A fine piece of free verse but a sad comment on an all too common situation. in reality there is little you can do I imagine to help. They have to find their own solution and so often this leads today to the break-up of the marriage.

Few of us take the words, "...for better for worse, in sickness and in health" seriously. They don't seem to have any relevence in an atmosphere of clanging wedding bells.

Obviously I am sad to tread this from you and can only hope that they will find a way through it all.

Hi TRIESCHEL,
This is a really sad poem. I know what mental illness can do to a relationship,
Not everyone comes through it unscathed. I do hope your daughter and her husband manage to find a way through this.

Well, I prayed for my own 22 year marriage not to end, Tom, but that did very little good.
However, for what it's worth, my thoughts and prayers go with this unhappy couple.
I wish for you, and them, the best outcome.

thoughts are scattered,
Love's fabric tattered,
dreams are splattered ... the mono-rhyme in these lines is effective. It gives the passage the feel of a chant which conveys the gravity of the message well.

So sorry to hear, Tom. I hope things work out for the two of them. Keep strong.

Sonali

Shouldn't this lines -

dreams are splattered on the walls of reality,
and painted ... read ...

dreams are splattered
on the walls of reality,... ?
and painted

That is so sad, Tom, and they will both get my prayers. Bipolar disease is a strain on both, and on those close to them, you and your wife and his parents too. But, it is an illness, and if they could just understand that and work on it together, then they might come through this as strong as her parents have. You are good examples to both, my friend. You wrote a lovely poem, I would show it to them if I were you. My prayers are with you too, my friend. xsx Sandra

My thoughts are with you and your family. I hope that all will be resolved and your daughter can re-find her footing with your support. (You might ask her doctor to check her thyroid--I know it sounds strange, but an under or overactive gland can create these symptoms as well.) Your addition of rhyme to this free verse adds to its intensity--it's rather like a rap. Best wishes- Joan

How sad Tom. I am sorry your family is going through this stressful ordeal. I hope everything will work out for the better. It is so sad when bad things happen to good people and the bad ones just go on and on. God bless your family Tom.xx Nancy
