G'day Dawn. Powerful stuff mate and very person to me.
In 1990 I was walking on my way to pick one of my kids up from kindergarten. A young guy came up to me and asked ... "What are all these cops asking all these questions about, mate?" I told him I have no idea and walked off thinking he was a wacko, as I'd seen no cops. I walked a few more minutes and heard ...
"Hey you! Get on the ground or we'll shoot!"
I turned around and there were about six cop cars with cops leaning over the hoods, guns drawn.
I said ... " Shit!" and got down on my back. A big fat cop came prancing over, put his gun to my head and said ... "Make a fuckin' move cunt and I'll blow your fuckin' head off!"
I said ... "Wow!"
They took me to the station and when they found out I was innocent let go. It turned out the guy that asked the question had robbed a nearby bank.
They shot 8 people that year and started a campaign for "Greater police powers". I started one against it and had to attend a royal commission. Five of the six cops involved were fired and the one who put the gun to my head, I put in hospital and disabled him for life.
This is the stuff that poetry is made of my friend. Well done.
Cheers Fez

Hi Dawn, it is senseless what has been going on of late. I don't know, but the world is heading in the wrong direction. I need to retreat, and bury my head in the sand. I need peace for a little while. I can find that here where I live. It's all too sad. All the best. Ulla:)))

I think I get the last line, Dawn, in that everyone different is feared or even hated - usually bullied at least, but I'm not sure the wording is very clear, especially for a last line that should be clear and dramatic to stay with the reader.
Excellent meter and rhymes throughout this very powerful anti-gun/anti-racist write.
Cheers, Ray xx

All live is indeed sacred.
Very nicely done piece of warning and overcoming those same. Excellent rhyming and flow.
A speech without the language. Very different to read.

I agree that you shouldn't blame everything on bigotry but sometimes it is the real reason things happen. So may unnecessay deaths have happend so quickly and will continue if we don't find the truth. No one should take justice in their own hands, it only creates reasons for others to kill for vengeance.

Of course bigotry is sometimes the real reason, but pulling out the racist card for every perceived wrong, even a real wrong is a hindrance, not a help (and that happens too - a lot). It's odd how it's okay for blacks to cry racism, but NOT okay when the case is reversed.
And yes, again you are right - no one should "take justice into their own hands", first of all because they might be wrong!
Thanks so much for your great review.

You're welcome. I agree that there does seem to be a double standard with bigotry. Those not of color, because they are the majority, can't be discriminated against seems the be the rule. I also always wondered why blacks can use the 'N" word amongst themselves but if a caucasian says it it is horrible. I think it should be considered horrbile either way.

Thank you for your words of caution in these rhymed, rhythmic quatrains. There is hope--last night, a crowd of a thousand gathered in Inglewood (near Los Angeles) consisting of Black Lives Matter protesters. They even blocked the freeway, but the police did not call in reinforcements and no arrests were made and folks dispersed peacefully by midnight. Also, in South Los Angeles, police organized a buy-back program over the weekend and took over 600 guns and much ammunition off the streets. Yes, there is hope- Joan

There are bad police officers just like there are bad people in all walks of life. They give good police officers bad names, just like in all occupations. I do believe that ALL LIVES MATTER!

Well written poem with great rhymes and a very provocative subject. I very much like your point, well illustrated by the shocking videos. I think that sometimes sensitivities and self stigma cause people to cry racist when that is not always the situation, would never say never but overdone with rioting etc.

Hello Dawn;
-I was touched very much by this magnificent writing and thought that your composition was perfectly written for this type of universally stated awareness of this time of prejudice especially for the blacks.
-Your well-placed and wonderful rhyming words were not forced or labored and helpful in the fluidity of your reading and writing.
-Each of your well written rhyming words were contingent and supported to the meaning and concept of each and all of your life therefore making your rhythm to flow smoothly.
-Well written rhythmic meter was iambic tetrameter and your cadence and timing was helpful in making the reading clear, fluid and very easy.
-The pictures and videos are very helpful in determining the reflectively appropriate, supportive and relative conceptual theme of your writing.
-Thank you for sharing and posting and may the Lord be with you always.
Alex

How did these men ever become police officers? I thought departments had mental tests that they had to pass.
I know a kid(white upper middle class family) that was shot/killed while playing a prank. He knocked on the officers door and ran to hide with his friends. While he ran, the cop shot him in the back. No charges were filed. Said he was trespassing.
This same cop had harassed my son several times--pulled him over in his car. Thank God nothing happened to Allen.
I don't know if he's still a cop or not.
That was white on white no racism involved. Just plain bad cop.
I don't think every shooting is racist, either.
