I told you I would visit! Sorry, many of my post responses will likely look very similar... I find it hard to says a totally new 145 character response to haiku poems.
Your picture was exquisite with its matching of this haiku.
A wonderful opening for a story!

I love the artwork, it enhances this superbly. I am impressed that two different writers (an terrific writers too) are collaborating. I have no doubt the two of you will make a terrific team. I love haiku and this one is very good.

Thank you for going back a bit to check out our hora haiku book, Sasha.
Each haiku pertains to the story and contributes to the book as a chapter of unfolding events.
In other words, it is a Gothic horror/love story told only through haiku poetry.
Both my co-author, the talented Gypsy Blue Rose, and myself certainly appreciate it.
Stay scared, but be scarier... ;)

Just so you know the artwork did scare the heck out of me, the wolves not so much. I think it is a great endeavor that you and Gypsy Blue Rose are taking upon yourselves. Great haiku, enjoyed the read and maybe the scare. The very best to you both. Blessings................Portia

Good deal, Portia.
It's really great having you keeping up with the chapters.
The idea of writing an entire Gothic-styled love story has never been attempted in haiku.
We're both giving it all we got...and THEN some!
Thanks so much again for your awesome feedback and review.

Hi Dean,
At first glance, to be honest, I thought this was just one entire sentence, so I worked with it for a bit and then I think I got it as two connected events but not the same one... I think LOL
Good atmospheric piece.

Haha, thank you for going back to look it over just the same, Gareth.
Both Gypsy and I sincerely appreciate you following along with the story.

This makes a perfect book cover for a horror Haiku book, it uses a spooky image of the wolves and sets an eerie tone in a scary place in a 5-7-5 format that lends itself well to the mood.

Thanks, Tom. This entire book is an experiment and hopefully it all works out okay. We will still be focusing on nature, but add elements of horror along the way.
Much obliged for the R&R.

I have to say that while this sets a horrific atmosphere it does not strike me as being a particularly good haiku because there is no second statement to make a good satori line. The whole thing is one single sentence rather than two.

Oh, but it does, Jim. It's just that with haiku, you're not permitted to use punctuation, as I'm sure you well know.
You're simply not putting the influx on the words in the proper places.
So, it should be read like so:
Near an earthen vault, deep in the Carpathians.
Wolves howl at the moon.
The wolves are nowhere near the earthen vault in the Carpathians, but something is, which is why they're howling.
Thanks for the review just the same.

Oh dear. Either I got it awfully wrong or you found a loop hole to wriggle through. Sorry. But should it be capable of that sort of misreading?
-
No worries, Jim, it doesn't matter. Most everyone else who frequently writes haiku got it.
Cheers.

Again I must compliment you are your expertises as a poet. Haiku great too. The image fitting and the message of wolves howling at the moon add to the poem the few words express the reality of the scene.
