The enemy raging all around her - great description of cancer. This is a sad story as Mary sits alone, just her and that hated reflection as she battled cancer. Loved the ending and unfortunately, this probably happens in families. Great read, enjoyed it.
cheers,

Thank you for sharing the answers to the contest's questions. The artwork you selected is quite parallel to the theme of your story. It was fascinating to hear that Mary had been a successful entertainer and even more surprising to learn of her revenge toward her uncaring family in the end. Best wishes in the competition- Joan

Best story in this section so far. I was shocked reading each line. If it wasn't her having cancer it was her family not visiting her. Then the desperation of her wanting to her the words "you're in remission." The incredible sad ending and you made us feel sorry for her. She once was beautiful; she once was happy and now she was near death. Then another shock she killed herself!
The revenge bit was perfect. I love how the dog's called Fifi haha. really good bit of writing!

For the writing, the way it flowed from start to finish.
For the content consistant as the story was told.
For the wording used to tell the story,
For the descriptions and the feeling you put into this piece.

You know Brett, am living with two different cancers and a multitude of other health issues. I can relate to how Mary was feeling. Now, four months ago, I was diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer's. I have not told my sister or my adult children who seems to have forgotten me. I have nothing to leave them, so that shouldn't mean much to them.
This story, so well written leaves a sadness for Mary within my heart.
Brett, enjoy the evening and my best,,,,,Jim
