A very interesting portrayal - with personal anecdote -of the 'What is a clay vessel ' here with resonance for our own mortality and the 'whys' and 'wherefores' of the aftermath -

Yes, zanya, I asked a lot of "whys" and "wherefores" in the aftermath of my father's death. the only thing I am certain of is love. Thank you for your review.

Quite a beautiful story about your father and I know you will always cherish that clay pot, and his note to you... and death we all have to go through... Hopefully, it will reward those, like the soul of your father that seemed to be such a caring person and too... He was quite the gifted craftsman. with a 60yr career as a potter.

Best wishes for your entry...Caressa_08

Yes, c_lucas, my poem was originally thrice as long but I decided to focus on the four stanzas that meant the most to me. I made audio recordings and listened to them to ensure that my words flowed smoothly. Thank you for your review and for wishing me success in the contest.

This was certainly a challenging writing contest and you did a bang up job. Your poem is very poignant and very touching. I think our souls do rejoice at losing these cumbersome bodies.

Yes, Louise Michelle, "I think our souls do rejoice at losing these cumbersome bodies." As the son of a potter, I could not pass up this contest. My only challenge was coming up with a poem that paid tribute to my potter father. Thank you for your review.

Mystery author, very nice free verse for the contest. What a lovely thing to do put a note in the clay pot like your father did. We are all clay molded by the Potter. Good poem for the contest

How wonderful that your father made the pot and such a lovely sentiment to leave the note.
I particularly enjoyed the 3rd stanza.
Remember to add the closed speech marks after 'clay vessel'
best of luck in the contest

Thank you, Fiona, for your review and for wishing me success in the contest. I love the third stanza, too, because it painted two vivid pictures of the liberated soul.

I checked your idea about the closed speech marks after 'clay vessel.' That is part of a longer speech in which the quotation marks ends the stanza.

    Once again, thanks.

A great poem and I love the way you compared a clay pot to our bodies
which hold our souls. The freedom they felt when they had escaped
from the worlds evil bonds. I prefer a steady rhythm in poetry which I couldn't find in yours but the story was excellent!

Great story about your Father who loved you. He taught you importance
of pots and messages. When my Mom went into a nursing home, she left
all to my brother and all. I found her photos and art work. Yes, our parents
are dear to us. Treasure your memories and gifts they gave you. Great entry
and photo. Have a blessed weekend! flylikeaneagle
