This is very true. A vessel is a better term for baggage and we all have some. I liked this poem and the metaphor as well. I enjoyed reading it and found the poem entertaining. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Thank you, Debbie, for your condolences, your review, and wishing me success in the contest. Whenever I miss my father, I remove the note from his pot and read it. I am glad I shared this "lovely story" with you.

What a beautiful story told in wonderful rhyme. We are indeed nothing but clay vessels crafted by the Master Potter and inside we have a message of love to reveal to the world. Thank you for sharing and best wishes for the contest.
Bless you
John

An excellent free verse poem that applies to many of us carrying out the wishes of our loved ones. Each verse could stand alone and all together they tell a wonderful story. I thought having the pot made the story really come to life and gave it a greater meaning.

Yes, John, "having the pot made the story really come to life and gave it a greater meaning." I wrote the poem first and decided to add the picture later. It would have been criminal for me to use a picture of a generic Far Art review pot when I have so many of my father's pots around the house. Thank you for your review.

I love this tradition. Keeping love sent...in the clay pot.
The notes at the bottom of the poem are interesting. If not box, Pandora's Pot/jar?...
This is a unique poem and has an interesting story.

Thank you, Nika2016, for your generous review. Yes, I was stunned to discover that Pandora's Box was actually a large clay jar. I do not know where my father found the tradition of sending love notes in jars, but it is a beautiful one. Thanks for your review.

Hi Mystery Poet
What a lovely way to display love and keep it forever. Also a great tribute to your father, a true artisan. I've always loved pottery and the warmth and special qualities of the clay. A unique story told in your poetic prose, one that will surely touch many hearts. Well considered thoughts on life in an ethereal sense. My sons and I used to have little boxes where we'd leave notes for each other. They were only little and loved finding a note in their own box. I did receive many love notes in tiny scribbled writing. You brought back these memories with your poem ... I love the idea of love enclosed in a clay pot ... how lovely this is a personal experience. Thanks for your notes ... interesting background. An excellent poem for the contest. I wish you the best of luck. Warm Regards - Lovinia xoxo

This remembrance of your father is beautiful. I had not heard about the custom of sending a note in a pot. Thanks for sharing the poem, picture and the story of this custom,

There are many uses for clay pots and it seems in this poem it seems all uses point to love. The love of God creating us from clay. Our love relationships held in ash urns and boxes and the love letters held in oriental pots. You could alson say plants are also a work of love that are kept in clay pots. At one time food was lovingly perpared in clay pots over the fire.
Good luck in the contest.

Your poem thugs at the heart, especially for the old souls who believe in the value of little things, like notes, letters, a piece of candy, an old trinket, et.al, which reminds us of the love and beautiful memories of a loved one. Your poem explored that theme excellently. God bless.

Thank you, nassus1957, for your generous review. Of all of the pottery my father gave me over the years, it is his note in a pot I cherish most. Whenever I miss him, I take out the note and read it. Thank you for your review.
