I could not have said it any better myself, Judy, nor would I even try.
Life is an adventure, a tragedy, a joy, and a heartache. Into ANY life a little rain must fall. There are some of us who are forever armed with an umbrella, out of necessity.
Excellent poetry ...

Thank you so much Dean, That means the world to me. I have always liked free verse, I just write without thinking and then go back and edit. You are giving me more confidence every day.

Hi, Judy
Great to see you hear. I can tell you have read Mr. Whitman long before this challenge came to be. Great imagery and reflectiveness all the way through and sooooo thought provoking for the reader. It's written at a quick pace, but there's no way the reader doesn't pause often and that's a great thing and just what you want. I feel an optimistic spirit at every turn here. That makes for an uplifting read.
I'd love to have had you as my choir director. We had some really dull dude who sang flat ALL the time. Jeesh. It drove us nuts. "LA, LA, LA ... that's your note." "NO IT'S NOT! YOU'RE FLAT!" Of course, none of us said that. LOL mikey

How funny, at least you sang, that part makes me happy. I love teaching so much. Thank you for the review. Free verse does come easy to me. I just sit and write as fast as I can then go back and correct it. That is the way I write music too. Life is such a gift. I once told a future boss in an interview two things. First off , I am intelligent, but I have holes in my intelligence. ( I hate filling out paper work, deadlines, etc.} Then I told him , For me the simple is complex and the complex simple. I can sit at a piano and improvise, but I can't always find both of my shoes. You all bring out the good in me.

Phantasmagorical illustration! I wish I could watch the snow melt on Christmas Eve (we are in high summer then.) Excellent story/poem. The world has changed since the time when we were innocent children. We can't change it back. Still, our faith is the sail that sends our boat sailing to safe harbour. I look forward to the time when we have no cares, no fears; only the love of the Creator and all of our families and friends that have passed over. Well done my friend.

Hi Judy

I came to your portfolio to find the two poems who advised me of (thank you so much, even though I haven't got there yet - lol). I just couldn't pass this one buy with that stunning image to lure me in, and your title of course.

There is simplicity and wonderful clarity in your verse, and such peace , acceptance and wisdom. A level of life I aspire to reach and not made it yet. You sound a strong woman of character; made by the trials and the triumphs of life. The deepest lows and some brilliant highs. I keep thinking these days, "Why is life passing me by, I'm not old enough to have given up on it yet" ... you've reminded me that life, living it contains the lows along with the highs ... perhaps this is where I've been going wrong lately ... STUCK!! rather than MOVING, even GOING WITH THE FLOW!!! Your poem I think, is one of those life seeking moments one comes across when not expecting it ... like the book that jumps off the shelf into your hands. Truly outstanding ... in pure simplicity ... this has meant a lot to me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of life. Warmest hugs - Lovi xoxoxoxo

I have tears in my eyes as I read your review. You are so right. You have to grab life. I have had a wonderful life the last eighteen years, but before that there were so many things that I let stand in my way. This year I lost my thirty seven year old stepson to a heart attack and seventeen days later my best friend and confidant through a complication from knee surgery. I did get sad, very sad, I had to write constantly, I had to keep myself going. I teach, I refused to let life beat me and I only missed two days of work. I would love to get to know you better. I am in a good position in life now but that doesn't mean that I still don't question God at certain moments.

I really like this piece! I like how you divided up the days and could relate to a lot of the feelings and observations you so skillfully described. You captured some very powerful sounds, for example, thunder, hail, wind. It's a beautifully written poem and was a true pleasure to read. Thank you for sharing. :)

Thank you so much. Free verse is how my mind thinks and lives so the challenge was fun for me.

I think you have captured Whitman;s style well here - especially the
"what it means - why it's important" aspect.

I did feel it was a little short on capturing the sounds of the
day, but the emotional content more than made up for it :-)

Great write for the Saturday Potlatch challenge :-)

I agree. The sound part did not enter this poem. I so enjoyed writing it. Thank you for making my day brighter.

This is an insightful look into your own life and how your moods vary. I think it fits most of us. I would hope on the last day I will know why I lived. This is a very thought-provoking poem. I really liked it, Judy

A movingly philosophic poem with strong emotional content s you reflect on the days of your life and its summation at the final reckoning. I enjoyed reading this, though would have found it easier with a slightly larger font. Should hells fires be hell's fires perhaps? I very much enjoyed your musings about the last day.

thank you so much for your suggestions. I was using internet explorer on my new computer and it was not allowing me advanced editing. Now on chrome I could change the font again. I am so happy because I need larger font but I refuse to say it is because I am older. I always treasure your reviews. I hope it is more readable now.

Days is a very unique poem that gives classification to your days. This is a unique perspective of reality because all of us know that our days are not the same. You have just broken them down for us, and reminded us that we have some days, we have other days, We have most days, and we will have a last day. Thanks for sharing. May God bless you!
