Hi TREISCHEL,
this is a wonderful piece of history and right on the door step which you nothing about. It is amazing what is right in front of us can go unnoticed for years. Thank heaven you found it and shared it with all of us. I loved the flow and the rhythm, a very smooth read.

Very interesting and amusing story about explorer, Pike. Seems he make great discoveries around and in the Mississippi River. Poet looks like finds these events very interesting. That photo is so lovely and picturesque. Check out mine, also today. liberty justice

This should be written on the plaque, it is so perfect in ballad form. You should get out your banjo ( or guitar) and build a campfire and sing this sucker. I don't usually find historical poetry fun, but everything about it was right on the money, honey. The rhymes were good and the meter gave it music. Reminds me of cowboy poetry a little. Good, good, good.

The Bridge to Pike Island Is an excellent form with marvelous flow and an easy read. You have written it such that you are telling the story without verbal gymnastics and linguistic contrivances. You just plain said it like it is and it rhymed! I like it when it rhymes! LOL you don't have time to read my poem, let it rhyme, but if you did, you might like it. Thanks so much for sharing. May God bless you!

A very well-written poem, and an interesting discovery of the beautiful old cement bridge which dated back to 1805. An excellent photo as well.

The bridge is fairly recent. The island tale goes to 1805. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem.

Enjoyed the history lesson in a poem. The poem itself has a lovely flow and the rhyme unforced. The author notes were very informative. Thank you for sharing.

I wanna go there right this minute after reading your poem. You have a way of doing that to readers you know. You should be a CEO of promotions, seriously. Very nice.
