Excellent, yes all those they step on and the right from wrong they just push aside so they may reach the top, unknowing they will pass us on their way down, an excellent read with a very good message****kahpot

That is so sad when people are so obssessed with worldly goals and when late in life, they realize that the really most important things were to love God and others and nurture friendships that last.

Food for thought...We usually think that success is always good, but we forget about how some people go about it. If someone brings down others in order to succeed, then I don't think he/she has really "won" anything. Great job!

Hi Jaybird1, you seem to be counterintuitive in this work, we usually asscociate reaching the summit as success, but in the poem you use it as a warning that you can lose your soul along the way if you're too tunnel vision, goal driven to the extent of everything else can be blinding. I guess the word, 'balance' springs to mind.
Good poem that was nicely paced to reach an original ending. Thanks for sharing your poetry with me today, cheers, Anastasia.

I guess climbing the mountains of life can be costly in the afterlife. I like the line " he lost what can't be bought. " You did a very nice job..

Hi
This is an excellent written poem. It sad to see this happen. It's sonething you can't buy. When the world falls down around them, it's a different story.
This is a great poem.
Great job

once again I am fascinated by your ability to create a simple poem that has such complexity of thought--you capture the reader and create a desire for more of the story--most enjoyable!
All the Best!

If you strive for more than you need, how do you ever find out what you really need? I have enough to eat and pay the bills, but there's not a lot left after that. I consider myself not rich, but well off in that respect. "A wise man needs little." No, I don't consider myself wise, but I am pretty damn happy. Best wishes.

There's truth in the old saying "It's lonely at the top"...your poem gives the reason why for so many.
Nice flow~~to your writing, Jaybird1.

I loved this poem and its sentiments, I have a suggestion for the third stanza just to improve the meter for you, last line would be much better "and thinking fortune made his day" This is just a suggestion, your poem is much enjoyed, love Dolly x
