Hello Jaybird!
Wise words for these times! So many people that I know have also attempted to reach what they perceive to be the summit and became lost along the way. Your words speak volumes of truth. And I am certain that many readers will be able to relate to your well-crafted poem.

Take Care!

What's that saw about being nice to the folks you trample on the way up, you'll see 'em again on the way down? People used to drift down here from West Va. and Harlan County east and think they were at home....excellent poem....

this is an interesting piece of poetry dear jaybird! I have always wished I could climb the summit. I bought a couple of books and watched documentaries. I find it fascinating how people have the stamina to make, such a journey.
thank you for sharing!
Blessings and a hearty hug!

Wow this is exceptionally poignant and striking. Such raw truth within your words. I think having goals and aims is very important but never at the expense of your heart, wellbeing or those we love. It's always better to be at the bottom or the middle because then there's room for growth, but if you've already achieved everything then where do you go from there? Loved the message and the rhymes which flow so smoothly x

Sweet illustration of perfect blades swing, flowing words making course read delighting, cutting views able to penetrate most readers hard shell breaking mine. All in my opinion.

A very fine poem, detailing a very common problem-- people whose selfish ambition leads them to go for what they want, without any concern who gets trampled along the way. It is true of too many people; one in particular springs to mind.

It's unusual to see sonnets written in tetrameter, but you're in good company. I'm pretty sure more than one of Shakespeare's earlier ones were.

In the third last line, the meter is slightly off, I feel, with the emphasis on the "ing" in "thinking" (not how it sounds when spoken).

A most enjoyable, and well-written post.

Wow - a cautionary 'tale' as it were here - perhaps pertinent for our times also - reaching the top rung of the ladder and then what ? -the 'detritus' left beneath

This poem, On Reaching The Top, has a cautionary message about our climb to the top of the ladder. Stepping on people and not valuing their climb as well leaves one lonely at the top and friendless on the way down.

Good meter, good rhyme scheme, good topic, good imagery, good word choices. The poet has put together a good map of how NOT to live a successful life leading to a good outcome. No picture needed on this one, as the visuals presented did it all. Good job.

This is a very well written poem my friend. Your words are certainly the truth. As you said when we reach the top of whatever ladder we're climbing there is no place to go but back down the ladder.

I'm sure many regrets what they have done after fighting and clawing their way to the top once they have fallen back down to earth.

Happy Holidays...Bill
