Prettybluebird, what a great story. It's no wonder that you won
the contest ... Your Biggest Dream. This is written so very well.
Yes, people don't always choose wisely and have to change their
dreams.

Thank you. The wrong road can change a person's whole life. Young people don't like to listen sometimes and I was no exception.

This is well written and gives a lot of sound advice. When people are young they often listen to their heart instead of to their head.

Thank you. I often see young girls today who are headed for a lot of grief. It does no good to try to change their mind. This was so in my case too. My dad tried to tell me but I wouldn't listen. Such is life.

You are the age of my mother, but your writing is timeless. I think this idea of a prince rushing in to save us comes from the fairy tales we are fed as children. I try to tell my children the truths about life, but they don't listen. They have to make their own mistakes. I hope your story helps some young women out there.
Your attitude about the 16 years you had your son on a loan from God and remembering the good times is so powerful. I felt so sad at the end. But you are only 70 years old! They say 70 is the new 50. You still have time for so much happiness. I hope you find it.

Thank you. Yep, I feel great for being 70. I mow a huge lawn and take care of cattle every day. I decided to let the bad go and remember the good.

Wow! You did take the wrong road, but I admire your resilience. You effectively cover so much time in this biographical story. I certainly get the feel of the kind of man you married. I'm guessing you hung on so long because back in the sixties, divorce was a dirty word. I could picture you and your son milking cows together. LOL. MY bet is that his spirit watched as you wrote this. Maybe you felt a kiss or abundance of love. Yes, you can remember the good, but it's more important that you forgive yourself.
Hugs,
Shari

Thank you, my friend. I let go of the bad a long time ago. I remember only the good times and am so grateful I had my son for 16 years. Hugs to you too.

This is a painful yet perfectly written and well paced story. It's inspiring and gives one hope. Your story helps us to appreciate what many of us take for granted.
You are to be commended for your perseverance. You did your very best under some bitter circumstances, but you can take consolation that being the unfortunate victim hasn't made you bitter.
Nice work.

A sad but not unusual story. I too had my dreams, like you a young prince would sweep me off my feet. Unfortunately those princes seem rather rare. I guess I read too many fairy tales. Funnily enough, I still like fairy tales, always the hopeless romantic, I thoroughly enjoy "happy after" endings.
Very sad about your son, but as you said, God loaned him to you for sixteen lovely years.
I am thankful that I have my two beautiful daughters, who love the Lord. That is my legacy of which I only have the dear Lord to thank. So I am better off than I imagined. The marriage isn't the greatest, but our children and grandchildren wouldn't have been, had I not married who I married. For that I am grateful.
Thank you for sharing your story.

I was in tears at the end of your story.
So tragic... you didn't marry the charming prince you dreamt about. He was a huge disappointment... Then you lost your first baby... Then later on you lost your teenager son, your best friend.
You had a hard life and you are so kind to share your story with us. You honesty and generosity is remarkable.
You are right. We all need to remember the good and let go of the bad.
Well done.

Thank you. I'm pretty much okay now. It took years to learn to remember only the good and let the bad go. Thank you for caring.

Absolutely. I'm so glad I read your story. So much to learn from it.
Be blessed.

A great entry in this contest. Written with honesty. I too am one of 12 children. I too was brought up to get married and have children. I did fulfill that dream... but then realised there was so much more to life. You took another road, and made some difficult decisions, but came out a stronger person for it. (I will celebrate 50 years of marriage next year! - Happy mostly!). Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

This is an excellent memoir writing. You had some good times with your son. There is much to learn from your story, many women still believe they will be taken care of and this is quite an unreality. Your story held my interest and I especially enjoyed the first part about your growing up on a farm.

Thank you. In the past, it was considered the norm for the man to support his family while the mother stayed home and took care of the children and house. The man was considered the head of the family and took care of the financial end of family life. It is so different now. Thank you for the six stars, they are appreciated.
