Your poem is nicely written and rhymed
well with a good message about the
ugliness of war. It's too bad that the
leaders so carelessly declare war at the
expense of those who actually goes out
and fight. Your poem is heartfelt and
thought provoking, thanks for sharing.

This is a wonderfully written heartfelt poem, Jay. Excellent job. I wonder how many youngsters even know or care what our veterans experienced and how they truly saved the world. Your poem is perfect for Memorial Day and every day. Our vets are heroes. Marilyn

A perfectly rhymed and metered poem--my heart's delight. You are 91, Sir and this is a wonderful tribute! I was born in '37 so was 4 on that Sunday, Dec. 7, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Have watched every single movie and documentary on WWII that I can get my hands on. Never tire. I know we had God's blessing on us then, but now, I'm not sure. Recently, I think it was called The Last Bomb but it was a home movie by someone in a B29 during the whole movie. This was not Hollywood; this was "being there." I don't think we're going to see the peace and harmony the whole world needs "before we go", but Bible says there will come a day like that. I look forward to that. Again, I feel so fortunate to have passed your way. You can stop by my message board anytime--anytime at all.

Before We Go Is a very excellent write. This is a rhyming poem with a wonderful flow that speaks to the heart of all mankind. World leaders, dictators, generals, and foot soldiers all have their own perspective and purpose for war. What you have told us is that World War II was fought to end all wars and bring freedom to all mankind. You've also told us that it was not the end result hoped for. As one with the authority to instruct us and encourage us all you have said, the hope of humanity should be peace and tranquility and not world domination by anyone or any nation. Thanks for sharing. May God bless you!

JayBird,

I wish I had a six left for you, but a virtual six will have to do for this time. Sorry. First of all and most important, thank you for your service. I appreciate it more than you can ever know. And my family appreciates it. You help keep the roof over our head and we know it. God bless you. *smile*

Now, to your piece.

This is lovely. Truly lovely. The rhymes are fun and unexpected, not boring and redundant or predictable. The subject matter is relevant and important and of interest to many. I think this is a true winner.

My main problem is that one can tell from the presentation you are a relative newbie -- is that true? Newer people to the site typically create their posts using the basic editor, when the rest of us typically use the 'Advanced Editor' (the option under the box where you place your text for new posts.) The difference is immeasurable when you look at the two.

I would like to humbly suggest you go back and press 'edit'. Then hit 'advanced editor.'

Okay - then you can highlight your text by placing your mouse at the farthest most top right hand corner of the text -- and right click -- AND HOLD DOWN.

DRAG the mouse down and over the rest of the text until everything is highlighted. Then let up on your mouse. While everything is STILL highlighted, chose a new font and a new size for your text. Keep playing til you find something you like. If you want, find the little capital letter A with colored blocks in front of it, and pick a color for your text! When you're done, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click 'save'. Then take a look at the results. If you don't like it, go back and edit again. It's fun and it will add a lot to your writing. Even if you just change the font from the default it will help make a better presentation.

Just a thought. (And I'm sorry to talk to you like you don't know how to do this stuff - but that was JIC.) *smile* Hope this helps. Loved the poem!

Jay,

You have composed a really powerful poem
and prayer for peace. It seems to have a
melody to it. I like how you used "before
we go" as the last line of your first stanza
as well as your last stanza.

It is honoring to WWII veterans and hopeful as
well. I enjoyed your rhymes and imagery
within this.

My dad is 91 and a WWII vet. Were you
in that war as well?

Thank you for presenting this...very timely,

Linda
