That is indeed our hope, and you've captured it so accurately. It would be so wonderful to see people everywhere freed from their bonds, and peacefully coexisting.

2000 per day, wow. I think this is your most lovely work yet, I love the wrapped refrain in the first and last verse, and it tells of a beautiful prayer for all, it would be wonderful, blessings....

My father in law was a veteran of WWll. This has a nice flow. I especially liked

"From Pearl to Iwo steady, slow,

we fought our way toward Tokyo

and with those two atomic blasts,

this tragic war would end, at last. "
I also loved your refrain. Thank you for sharing your work.

In my humble opinion, this is a well written poem that speaks volumes without the use of a lot of words. I always find that tough to do so I think this is really good in that regard, and as well, in regard to the topic and a unique take on something that can sometimes be a touchy subject.

No one has a more legitimate claim for peace before death than the veteran of WWII. After such monumental effort and loss, it must be distressing to see the pattern of hatred, power grabbing, and destruction repeat itself, even on a smaller scale. I hope your wish comes true.

I know how heavy the burden must feel.
To have fought -- yet one or another war rages on.
To come home, when so many were lost.
It must feel they've all been betrayed
because the peace so sorely won,
has not lasted.

Before I go, too.

Peace, Lee

Excellent message here, jaybird1, and as a veteran of Uncle Sam's United States Marine Corps I couldn't agree with you more.
War is horrible, but a necessary evil sometimes perpetrated for the greater good of all.
Young men (and now women too) die fighting for a common cause under the banner of freedom.
Kudos to you for this stellar poem and for your service to your country and your duty.
God bless...

If I were to read this in a book , I would find it touching and well written. Reading it here, from a veteran of WWII- it becomes profound. well done
