My Dad was a WWII veteran and has passed. The greatest generation. A nice tribute poem. Thanks for sharing. No edits or adjustments necessary.

i am sorry for being a cynic. It is a pipe dream. I don't think we would ever see the end of war .Wars these days are not fought to win or lose .It has become a necessity How else will the armament business survive? let me echo Orwell 's grim and cruel irony.. world is overpopulated ....

I never pass a veteran of any age that I don't stop and thank him (or er) for their service. I love your poem. My grandad was in WWI, my dad in WWII, my uncle in Viet Nam and two cousins in Iraq/Afghanistan...breaks my heart how many of them are passed or passing never having seen the hard fought for peace they so hoped to bring. May they find peace in heaven.---Karenina

This well-written poem is heartfelt and deeply meaningful, conveying
themes of hope for peace worldwide. Yet there is little peace in our
government . . .

Startling beautiful writing with heartfelt hope for a better world. These lines are particularly memorable:
With steadfast England at our side,
we stopped their grab and stemmed the tide.
They gave me a visceral feeling of living through that war.
Well done.

Hello Jaybird: I really enjoyed reading your poem. Being an old Vietnam vet I can relate to your words.
I especially liked your last stanza, it says it all. Take care of yourself...Bill

I love this fabulous poem! It conveys the hope of so many that deserve America's undying gratitude. I can't imagine what the world would be like if those brave men and women hadn't accomplished this feat. Superb work!

Hi Jaybird, I think we all find ourselves wanting that very thing every day. I think the problem is, that a lot of people have a lot of very different ways of trying to make it happen, and when they can't agree... well, we all know what happens then, don't we... :(

I salute you sir, haven never served myself, brother given the purple heart, being the lucky one of your dream. Well stated, sounded by a true warrior. All in my opinion.

It's always hard to put things like these into words. It's such a powerful message and such a potent event but few people can still personally remember. Thank you for your writing and thank you for your service.
