Congratulations on your well-deserved win, Craig.

Some lines are in excellent meter, but others not (most need just a minor tweak to regain the correct emphasis), so I did stumble on the flow at times, with respect. However, I still thoroughly enjoyed your great fun and inventive 'no A' poem, and the ending is particular clever.

Excellent.

Cheers, Ray.

Thanks Ray. I'm glad it wasn't S or E we had to avoid. Cheers, Craig.

Thanks for your gracious reply, Craig.

Yes, I think, 'E', is the most common vowel, and, 'S', the most common consonant, but I'll research and SEE. ;-) Ray.

Hi, Craig,

Congrats on this win! I was reading through this poem today, and got to the bottom thinking ... What a challenge! I like how you directed the theme as self describing. There is a coy attention to the joke in doing so... bringing attention to the action, while also keeping a pleasing rhyming structure to the poem's form. (It reminded me of the game, 'I'm not touching you' Where usually someone is buzzing a finger around the someone else they wish to torture... singing the song 'I'm not touching you'.

In this case... you were playing the game 'I'm not touching you.' BUT also while standing on one foot and hopping up and down with the rhyming and flow and wink between the lines.

Making the very act of not doing something, even more on the front of the reader's mind... versus, achieving the action of it... and doing it so well that no one even notices.

Not sure if that makes sense, but I had fun reading this and adding my comments, well done... : D

Gee, I see I missed out on all the good stuff as a kid. Hide and seek was the closest we had to what you describe.

I found this contest fun, although I'm not so sure it would have been so achievable if the letter was E or S (there's a challenge for someone).

Thanks for the lovely review, Turtle :)

Craig,

Congratulations on your winning entry here! Wow, my brain
is twisted just reading this. How ever did you do this...and
with rhyme too? Talk about talented...this is ingenious!

You really went through all those calculations? Now that's
a silly question. Sorry I missed this blind entry.

Linda

Haha, thanks for reviewing, Linda. It was a fun thing to try. Seems we never really miss our vowels until we can't have them :)

I didn't see a single "A" in your witty poem that cleverly attempts to explain this rule to the reader. You poem is charming and the artwork is perfect for it. Congrats. You've don a fine job, here. It made me smile.

Hahaha!
This is anoutstanding entry for the contest, Anonymous Poet, and must surely be the top contender thus far in the "Life Without the Letter "_" " contest.
Well, you didn't expect me to use it, did you?

Good job, except for one thing. You started with a good idea, and executed it excellently, with well-crafted rhymes and a fine sense of humor. I think you could have done a better job, though, if you only had broken down and used a few A's.

But, even so, yours is the best entry in the contest.

Very well-written without the use of 'a' we never think how much we use a letter until it is banned from use. Then we have to scatter around to find something else to make a bit of sense.

Thanks, Sandra. I think it would be a lot harder if they cut out "E" :)
