I stumbled across your story early this Tuesday morning and I read it slowly so I could comprehend every word and try to feel every emotion, raw or otherwise. It is wonderfully written and if I would be your father, I think I might have just sat down....you and me....and I may have told you all about it. I would have cried non stop until you begged me to. This story is precious and I know it may have been a little hard for you to share it initially, but once you got going, you couldn't stop. Your story was meant to be told. I do not know you at all and I briefly visit FanStory every now and then and sometimes submit a poem, but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing it with us. I fell in love with the way you wrote it. I am proud of your father. I am proud of you. He can be proud of you. I am so glad I stumbled across your writing this morning. You have touched my heart. I wish my grandfather would have shared his stories or my grandmother for that matter. They were both in Hitler's Army and my grandmother was a conductor on "The Train". That made her a very harsh non-emotional and sometimes quite hateful person. Your writing skills were excellent. I am so glad you won this contest. I would have voted for you guaranteed. Congratulations. Again, thank you. Respect to you, your father and your entire family.

You want to know what I love about you. I can tell you write now. You are so willing to admit that your family was in Hitler's Army. That tells me that All people are people. We do what we have to at that moment in time. They are a part of you. I am so sure all of us are good and bad. Our children make their own decisions on who they will be. But who is to say that my Father, if he were on the other side, The Hitler side, would have not done what your family did. He was also taught to follow orders. I would love to hear your story and I wouldn't judge it, I would only listen. Judy

Thank you so much for saying what you did. I will remember***

This is the first time I ever REALLY mentioned this to anyone out loud.

***and when I am truly ready to tell my story, you will be the one reading it.

Hello to you jusylee72
I can see why you were awarded first prize I can see how proud of your dad being a pilot in wars you said he was in. What got me emotional about when

, when you were very small, your dad came into your room. Mom had taught us to say our prayers before we went to sleep. He came in and sang with his deep baritone voice the Lord's Prayer to you.

This is a moving tribute to a fine, upstanding man whose whole life would have been better were it not for the sacrifices he made defending his country. The way war wastes lives, both of those who die and of those who live, is a shame on all humanity. Yet the heartless, power-craving, greedy, self-appointed "elites" who run this world persist in creating wars in an endless, fruitless quest to quench their insatiable, evil desires. Earth could be a paradise for all, were they not in control. My cousin came back from Korea with a bullet graze on his forehead. God bless those who must defend us, and you for this very personal tale of your honorable father.

You are welcome; and congratulations on winning, though that pales in comparison to knowing you had such a father. -- Mike

This really was a wonderful read. I am dismayed to read people questioned the fact that your father was not in all of the wars.

It is thanks to men like your father and mine also who made it possible for us to have the freedom we enjoy so much today.

I found the 'Memories of Daddy a compelling read. Your father like so many could not talk about the things he had seen or done. My own father and dear uncle would only talk about the pleasanter times. the camaraderie, the exotic places they saw. I was, I think easier for them to obliterate the horrors. Each one had their own way of dealing with it.

Thank you for sharing your memories with us. and good luck in the contest.

    He certainly was.

I went back and read the reviews your low rating was from a standard member. I just block them from reviewing my work.

Such a wonderful tribute to your father in recognition of his participation in the services. You presented the respect that he did indeed deserve. It captures love, commitment, betrayal. Wonderful and even disturbing memories were shared through this writing piece. Thank you for sharing.

This is excellent. It's well written. It tells the story of a true hero. I wish you could have heard all the stories, but I understand because I didn't hear all of my Dad's stories either. He fought in World War I but he never talked about it.

What a beautiful tribute to your Dad! I can't believe anyone would question whether or not your dad was in these wars. It could just be me but it seems disrespectful, even rude. In any case, great tribute and beautiful letter to your dad. A salute to your dad for his bravery! xoLeslie

thank you, I have to admit I actually got upset when a reviewer told me to check my facts , how could your dad be in all of those wars. But then I got the time line and explained it. How amazing that the generation we call the greatest generation was also involved in all of these wars. We lived on an air force base during the Korean Conflict. My Mom and My Dad's co pilots wife to us to a ranch. We rode horses and had a marvelous time. I had no idea that my Dad was in the air ready to bomb Cuba, but that is what they did back then protect the children.. Your understanding really touches my heart thank you.

Absolutely! Your letter was so touching and it's sad that anyone would try to take away from that. Both of my parents were in the military so I have an extremely high appreciation for those in the military. My entire family, for the most part, except my Uncle and myself have been in one branch of the military or another. I lost my dad 2 years ago, not to military, but in any he was my hero for what he did and I see that your dad, even at the young age of 6 was your hero even though you had no idea exactly what he was doing. Bless you and your family and Bless your dad. He must be so proud of you still this day! xoLeslie
