I like the setting on this like a stairway to?? You've done such a variety and have really grown with your April writes, and this one, as in Gwendoline's poem uses simple words but meaningful when put together. Good one Kim

I really enjoyed reading Gwendolyn's poem and kept coming back to it, so just had to try that style... I was thinking of it like the steps we take to preserve our friendships. Thanks for the great review, I appreciate the comments.

I can definitely see the influence of G. Brooks' "We Real Cool"
here - but found your take on it a bit more cryptic.

While Brooks ends on a flat declaration, yours leaves the
reader wondering what happened...my feeling is that it is
about being asked to takes sides in some disagreement and
standing your ground on not making an uniformed judgement
despite a plea made to your loyalty.

I enjoyed both the reading and unraveling of this poem :-)

I just couldn't get her, "We Real Cool" poem out of my head and kept coming back to it. I like your take on mine :) It is good to be a little cryptic ;) consider mine something of the steps we take to maintain a friendship, even when we don't agree.

I only just discovered Gwendolyn Brooks yesterday, but I kept coming back to this particular poem of hers thinking, I really need to try that style. I think she was an amazing woman, and there is so much diversity in her styles of writing. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.

This is an interesting form, following that of Gwendolyn Brooks. I learn something from your posts about the styles of other poets. Once we declare ourselves as poets, anything goes and we can break all rules. I do like this one as well as the poem of hers that you included in author's notes. If I had to choose between hers and yours I'd go for yours every time. I am not just trying to flatter you by saying that. Brooks' poem here is rich in black culture, which I don't pick up on. Wisely you, as a fellow caucasian have not tried to emulate thate facet of her writing. The result is something out of your own culture expressed in a similar style to Brooks but without the black ingredient. For the record I think you were absaolutely right to go about it this way.

I felt like her style was catchy and impactful, I just couldn't resist trying something similar. I agree, it would be silly of me to try and emulate a culture that isn't mine. Taking an idea and making it mine, that's another story altogether ;)

I read Gwendolyn Brooks' poem (featured in the author's notes) and I kept going back to it today, it just struck me... I may have to try a few variations of this one lol It was fun. I'm happy you like it. :) Consider it yours... just pull it out and read whenever you disagree with me lol we'll do just fine! ;)
