    Hi Annie!

Yeats was so diverse in his work and he left such a legacy for us to enjoy. It's amazing! :)

Your poem in honor of Yeats is simply hypnotizing
and so evocative of his writing! And you have managed
to condense so much of what is written about him into
a your notes.

The poem alone is worthy of plaudits, but the added
bio makes the presentation sing :-)

One (small) thought on the construction of the poem
you might consider. Line 4 has a small meter problem
(it counts out to 11 beats and the reader stumbles
on discussions) you might consider a small
change to
The fire lit for discourse and debates.
(just a thought)

Great submission Kim :-)

    Hi Leineco,

Thank you for all of the lovely comments. I appreciate the thought that you put into this review, and the well considered suggestion, too. In that particular line I have fire as a one syllable word, which gives it 10 syllables for the line. I know that sometimes people pronounce it as two syllables. Is that where it hangs up for you?

Thanks for all the kind thoughts.

Yup! That's what got me -
fire, desire, wire, tire?they get me every time! I instinctually read them as 2 syllables, and every so
often (when I'm writing) I plug them into syllable
counter and am annoyed at finding the same answer
    AGAIN - still one! LOL

    my bad ;-)

no worries :) It all depends on pronunciation sometimes. I appreciate all the thought that went into the review :)

Another gorgeous poem, Kim, and I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank you for putting on this lovely contest, and wrestling up this posse for NaPoWriMo... I appreciate it. Well done, and you have put together some remarkable pieces, this is another one. I have to disagree with one point:

Poetic genius, none since would displace --

You're well on your way, my friend. ;)

lovely... just lovely
another virtual six.

    Hi Cat!

What an amazing review! I've been having fun all month with everyone's poems. I am so happy that you've been a part of this experience. Thank you for the huge compliments. I don't know about the poetic genius part lol but if I accomplish a fraction of the work Yeats left as a legacy, I'll be happy. :)

    I love your virtual sixes!

What a purely lovely poem of tribute to a great poet and playwright; indeed a great Irishman and a man who embodies what it is to write poetry, I think. As we age, so do our views and introspection, as his work reflected. This is a keeper, my friend, not only for the beauty of your poem, but for your thorough author's notes.

    Hi Dawn,

Thank you for taking the time to read and review my poem. I appreciate the compliments and you sharing your thoughts. It has been my goal this month to explore the contributions of various poets and their styles and share with all the readers on Fanstory. I've been having great fun with this project, hence the author's notes. :)

This is beautifully done, and written in a style that is evocative of Yeats himself. You're a very good poet, I truly enjoy reading your offerings like this, and appreciate the thorough, interesting notes. I need to start reading Yeats myself and I thank you for spurring me on. His work is inspiring!
I wanted to say, in this line
"Embrace descriptions - his Ireland, so green"
would it flow better without the word "his"? Ireland drawn out into three syllables? Just a thought.
Well done! I feel green inside now :))

    Hi Carol,

Thank you for all of your enthusiastic comments. Yeats has so many poems to experience and his rhyme schemes vary, which keeps it all from sounding repetitive. I chose one of the rhyme schemes that is less common (in comparison to the other reading I've been doing) and really enjoyed emulating his style.

I really wanted the connection that Ireland is where Yeats draws his inspiration (hence the inclusion of his in that particular line) and all of the pronunciations I've found for Ireland are two syllables. I'm trying to imagine it in his tone, do you think he would draw it into three syllables? That would certainly be worth consideration.

Thank you so much for reading and offering your thoughts. I truly appreciate your perspective.

After only about four lines of this , reading aloud, I was in full Irish brogue mode, so you must have caught the feel of the emerald Isle and its poet. Words like 'beguile' for example, though not exclusively Irish have a definite feel for the place. You have done another good job with this fellow.

    Hi Pantygynt!

I really look forward to your reviews as a benchmark for how I've done with each poet. I almost thought this one was too simple, but am thrilled with your response. Thank you so much! :)

I love your posts Kim, they are always so informative, educational and enjoyable. I have lived for fifty years without ever reading Keats. You have introduced me to so many poets that when I next go to the library you will influence my choices.
Your own poem again, is a fine tribute to this poet, I particularly liked
Where faery folk bewilder and beguile,
Of Innisfree, the picture perfect isle,
I love your passion and enthusiasm and I'm so pleased you are on here. Hugs xx

A very well-written poem on the genius poet Yeats. A short efficient poem to bring tribute to this poet. Very interesting author notes to tell more of his life.

You two seem to share so much - the passion for lively debates, books and the land... I think you would have had fun together!
Beautiful tribute and I think you did justice to the style!

A very different rarely used form that you did very well.
Nicely done with the rhyming and the flow makes it easy to read .
Descriptions puts the reader in the piece
