Hi Judy,
I like the progression feeling in this poem although a sad topic. The hopes in the beginning, how things subtly change, criticism, hurt, and finally realization.
this is a wonderful work.

When relationships go sour, one is torn between her emotional considerations and social demands. But there is no standard formula for resolving such complex matters. The decision to end it must be taken without being influenced by outside forces. You have expressed your feelings in the poem nicely in the smooth flowing simple poem.

Really enjoyed this poem Jusy. Some great verses throughout. Life changes happen all the time and the decisions we make at forks in life's road can determine the rest of our lives. Thanks for sharing and entering the prompt

This is quite a read, and I did it twice to make sure I was understanding the message and story it contains. Excellent choice in imagery to accompany the body of work. Rhyming qualities and flow to storyline is superb. Good for you, getting on with your life after a broken heart.

For forgiveness comes too easy to the one who can't admit
Life is not a pretty picture on the mantle where it sits.
These lines stand out to me. I just ended a relationship that should have ended a very long time ago. No children involved, but it can be hard to make that final good-bye. A very good and moving write, my friend~Debbie

This is amazing! I am sorry you had to go through such struggles but these are the struggles that groom us to be strong, independent, capable adults. I'm glad to hear your life is so well...had it not been for the hard times, who knows where you would be now!? Beautiful xoLeslie

I cannot imagine being in a heart breaking relationship. I am blessed, Vicki and I have had a happy relationship for 45 years and both of our daughters have good marriges as well, sure it is not all roses but we all are happy. You certianly wrote this with emotion.

Great contrast between the life of order in the first stanza and the chaos in the second. Such heartbreak if things don't turn out as you hope they will. Staying together for the sake of the children is often the refrain. Sometimes women fear for their safety if they dare to leave. If he's an addict, maybe she thinks he'll change. Your poem is very insightful. Shows that people should think things through before getting married. judi
