Hi Starkat!

I believe this is the most inspired of the uninspired poems that I've read. You followed the exorbitant amount of rules and made it bland, but with just a bit of flare. Flies in the coffee, nice touch lol I think you may win this thing!

Good luck!

Kim

Thanks, Kim. So happy you enjoyed my lack of poetic inspiration poem. Yes - following all of Ray's rules is a challenge. Glad you liked the 'dead flies in coffee' that helped perk up the scene. Appreciate all your comments. Cheers ... ;o) starkat

Oh, that is a sad, sad scene...unless you've chucked it in for the day and you're off doing something much more fun. ;-) Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest!

Thanks - yes, a sad scenario produced by lack of poetic inspiration. It's all cleaned up, now, and the coffee up is washed - dead flies down drain. Appreciate your comments. Cheers ... ;o)

Hello :)

Great job with your 3/line poem for the yawn contest. I think you did an awesome job. When you can't find your muse, there will be lots of torn paper around your desk. lol Great job with the syllable count and following the long list of requirements. :)

Thanks. Glad you liked it. Torn paper, chewed pencils and dead flies in coffee means your muse has probably gone on vacation. Appreciate your comments. Cheers ... ;-)

This is a very clever entry. Many of the other 'yawns' have been a yawn, but this has been thought out well and really leaves a great mind picture on completion. For a writer's sight, what better than a late night session when words and ideas just won't flow? Just loved the final line:dead flies in coffee...a perfect picture of the brain dead writer too busy to complete the coffee meant to keep him/her awake, and the flies have taken over. Excellent response to the prompt.

Thanks. Glad you liked this response to the prompt, and especially the last line. Dead flies in coffee could also mean that the muse is out to lunch or on vacation. Appreciate your comments. Cheers ... ;-)

I can see the scene in front of me, because it is a most familiar scene. Cold coffee with flies in it the pencil halfway chewed up and nothing but scraps of paper.

I can certainly relate to that scene! Three great examples of all the time, energy and frustration involved in producing nothing. Perfect entry for this contest. I smiled after reading it because you put a little light heartedness into a heavy hearted situation:) nicely done!

Thanks, Amy. Glad you could relate to this scenario and found a bit of light-heartedness sandwiched in. I think all writers have been there once or twice - literally and metaphorically.

Appreciate all your comments. Cheers ... ;o) Art

To me, this is an outstanding senryu, PoetKat, and perfect for this contest. The imagery is fantastic and one every writer has seen as we struggle to get our imagination into go mode. It's easy to picture you sitting at your desk, staring into your mind, and looking for words that are playing hide-n-seek with you. Excellent and I hope it does well in the contest.
Smiles,

Thanks, Used-upEraserHeadIndy - So glad you enjoyed imagery in this poem. I'm thrilled with the special rating! Yep - imagination sometimes go out to lunch or on vacation. But, it will re-emerge, sometimes when we least expect it. I do have a bunch of chewed on lead pencils, currently being used to write out the evolutionary study of 9 ths in all keys - the erasers are necessary as I don't always get the notes, sharps and flats in the right place ... ;)

Do appreciate all your comments. Cheers ... ;o) PoetKat

It sounds like a very frustrating incident of writer's block that was long enough for the flies to make a swimming pool of your coffee cup. The chewed eraser is very visual and the frustration comes through loud and clear.

Thanks, Marykelly - Yes- lack of poetic inspiration can be quite frustrating and go on a long time. Glad this frustration came through in the imagery.

ok, Dead flys in coffee got to me. That is definitely a picture in my head now. Also the chewed pencil of my childhood came to mind. Great imagery in only three lines.

Sounds like it was the muse's day off, although I can't see why you let all those flies get to that coffee or even why they died. I mean to say, is your coffee not not of the required standard or was it laced with something more interesting ... to the flies?

The author/poet was so spaced out by lack of poetic inspiration, that too much time expired and flies eventually crawled into the coffee cup and drowned. Flies will do that after a day or so when coffee cups aren't rounded up and washed. They didn't die from arsenic or anything poisonous. That poet needs inspiration to pull out of a trance, clean up his act and start writing again.

    Appreciate your comments. ... ;-)
