HAAAAAA!!!! That's a trick I always use, pretend it's total fiction so you can tell the absolute truth!! LOL
This is a scream and I'm afraid it probably IS close to the truth for many of us. So delighted you've arrived to join us. I shall add you to the list of immortals! mikey

    Hi Mikey!

Thanks for the fun review! Ok, you've caught me out lol Hubby was asleep when I started writing and he woke up and decided ice cream was the order of the day (at approx. 3 am lol) and he brought me some, too. Outside of the sleeping husband and dessert, it is pure fiction, I assure you. He's far from the Mayor lol And, I'm sure you're familiar with Garth Brooks showing up in boots and ruining the 'black tie' affair... that would be closer for James lol

    Thanks for the fun!

Hi Kim. Good cadence in this fun limerick. (What a gorgeous table setting, gotta say.) Got a kick out of the "sleeping around" comment. Your rhyming is great, topic is amusing, light and interesting. Marilyn

    Hi Marilyn,

I am so glad you enjoyed this bit of amusement. It is my addition to Poetry Potlatch this weekend. We had an hour and I even managed to fit in a bit of research to make it do double duty for my 'Poets and Poetry' book, too :) I've been finding great pics for illustration at Pixabay.com I thought it was the perfect setting for the boorish husband to embarrass his wife lol

    Thanks for the fun review.

This is a lovely idea for a limerick but i just can't get into your meter - at least not until the final stanza. It is as if it is in its first draft stage. I am sure that with a little chiseling here and there it could be squeezed into the meter naturally but it isn't there yet. Kim, I really can't give this more than 4, sorry.

No worries... it is funny how some things work for some and not for others, I find. I value your opinion, but may not spend much more time with this one. Or perhaps, leave it for another day. Sometimes I think my meter doesn't scan well across the pond. (Not sure why?) I get that from Domino at times, too. I'm sure I've got plenty of room for improvement.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. Have a great day!

Ok, I took a second look. I do appreciate your comments. You may be the only person to realize I made changes. I'm not saying you'll like them lol maybe I need sleep instead ;) I know there are variations in the syllables for the limerick, so I wiggled it a little)

A delightful portrait of the husband a buffoon who seemingly has no manners at all. We certainly understand the wife's feelings. Great twist ending.
Your choice of rhymes, especially in the last stanza, were excellent.

This is the best one I've read so far! Such a good ending! I chickened out of this one. My mind was not in tune with limericks this morning!

    Hi Tony!

I really appreciate the compliment. I had a really busy Saturday and posted mine late, but I finally finished a potlatch challenge within the hour (that included my research time, too!) and sharing a bowl of ice cream with my husband lol (who was asleep when I started writing those) perhaps, he crept in there after all, though he's far from being the Mayor, or wanting to attend a 'black tie' affair, for that matter!

    Thanks for enjoying my fun!

Good Morning, Kim,

I wish you'd teach a course on how to write a limerick. I simply cannot write them. Your well-penned limericks make me want to try to write them.

I admire the tongue-in-cheek humor provided in each of these limericks. I also like how you tied the three together to tell a more complete story. I liked the third one the best because I can relate to it--having served in municipal government for a long, long time. Oh, those mayors....

Well penned, my friend.

Ray

    Hi Ray,

I am so glad you enjoyed these, but I am no expert in limericks. (I so appreciate the compliment) It was a fun topic for the Poetry Potlatch this weekend. If you have time to delve into my 'Of Poets and Poetry' book I'm composing for the NaPoWriMo challenge, I'd love to hear your thoughts on some of the other styles I've added. I am really having a lot of fun doing a bit of research and trying my hand at the different styles. (no need to review them all... just wondering what you think if you get the chance)

Thanks for a fantastic review :)

Thanks for a great review, rspoet. There is an entire selection of limericks floating around FanStory that were written for yesterday's Poetry Potlatch. I hope you get to enjoy all of them.

Very nice piece for the challenge. I could not add mine till this morning then I could not find the subject anywhere so I had to skip this one. I hope they arrange things better for people with bad eyesight to be able to search among the messages to find the subject.
Yours is excellently done and so much fun to read.

    Hi Barb!

It isn't too late. The topic is just Family (real or imaginary) I think you should still do one! :) I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. I just posted mine. We had a busy Saturday and I had to get some reviewing done to fund my folly lol
I used the entire hour and opted to add the limerick research to keep in tied in with my Poets and Poetry book, too! YAY! I finally managed to incorporate Potlatch in my book lol

    Have a great day!
