Kim,
This is just lovely.
I must say that your poems you're doing this way have been the only poems I've been willing to read such lengthy author's notes. They're fascinating! Telling me things I've never known before, and bringing to mind some things I knew, but had forgotten...
Just beautifully done. Every last one of them deserving a six. I look forward to reading some more tonight after the reload. Hugs
and thanks for the support while I was gone, it means a lot
Cat

I have another poet for you... he's obscure and I've never heard of him. But I read of him last night in Time Magazine, The Brain one... I"ll send it to you... it's a poet who lost his long term memory and couldn't retain anything for more than a few minutes... fascinating. Anyway, you should write also, about Ted Hughes and his two dead women.... really, it fits in perfectly with your theme. I won't mind at all. Hugs

What an amazing evening that would be
a visitation by Emily herself! I've always
thought of her poetry as incredibly personal
and yet, despite the difference of eras,
extremely accessible if you embrace the
almost whispered voice she speaks in. . .
sort of as if she were telling you a secret.

I think, as well as anyone can, you have given
us a modernized version of her style :-)

Nicely done
(wonderful notes too :-)

Thank you for the history. There was much in there I was unaware of. Your poem is wonderful and I love how you included one of hers in it. Good work, my friend~Debbie

Hello Dovey, Emily Dickinson, a fragile, yet powerful, soul and spirit. I've often thought she wore white because of its symbolic meaning. I enjoyed reading your poem, a poem in the spirit of Emily herself. Of special note:

Speculation on life
she declines to speak of,
Though smiles at names - Master and Judge -
alluding to her love.

I think that Emily's world was small, so when she met and connected with people, she became immersed in them.

Dovey, very good. Wonderful artwork. It brings us closer to the person and time period. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer.

You captured her essence in such a lovely way! She is palpable in this poem and I couldn't think of a better tribute.
I especially liked the word choice - "beloved ghost"
This poem and the wonderfully detailed notes feel like a gift! I appreciate your careful writing a lot!

She seems to be a very "modern" writer, stylistically. I f you compare her with others writing in the second half of the nineteenth century. Behaviour like that certainly seems like agrophobia to me. Certainly your poem is a fine tribute to Emily Dickinson' own style.

    Hi Pantygynt:

I could wish for you to say nothing more than that, it is exactly what I was intending. She is a poet I would certainly love to sit down and have a conversation with today. Oh, to have a time machine... instead, we have her poetry, that will have to be enough. Thanks for your excellent notes.

Very nice work, Kim. I enjoyed this posthumous visit from Miss Dickinson very much.

I found the author notes very instructive as well, thanks for including those.

Great work, looking forward to the next installment.

I enjoyed this, having recently read quite a few of Emily Dickinson's poems. They are powerfully moving and I can see why you think so highly of her. Your author notes were most interesting. You have brought her to life with your poem, as indeed I feel sure you would have done for the people of Amherst.

I am staring to look forward to your notifications. When I first read your poem I enjoyed it but on second reading after savouring your author notes it came to life for you. I walk away quite enchanted by Emily, I think you brought to life her spirit with the words you chose. I will never read another word of hers without seeing her dressed in white with her Carlo, blessed with long life for a Newfoundland, by her side, baking bread as a happy hermit.
You are quite extraordinary yourself my friend and quite a find on here x
