Hi Prettybluebirds, what a lovely love story with such a tragic end. And, it hold many memories and associations for me. Mum had a cat that would follow her with a pram, or driven in a car down the farm drive and sit and wait for her return. I am so glad you have found FanStory and love to write to share and empower your lives. Oh! How Mum would have loved that, but it wasn't supported as a struggling farming wife and mother of an eventually eight. It was generally a hard and oft unappreciated and tragic life, her love, time, determination, practical creativity, spirit and energy spread so wide.

But, I believe our destiny is shared, and with my next sister who suicided for freedom from such ab-use of our limited world; and so almost by first poems were shared at her precious funeral - a miracle in my `Survival on Australian Soil.'

Such memories and awareness are precious, so thank you for igniting the spirit with you story, life sharing and love. Blessings, Maureen*&*

Thank you, my friend. And thanks for the six stars, they are appreciated. I enjoyed reading about your mother too. She sounds like a wonderful person.

My daughter Amie was killed in a car wreck at the age of sixteen on the Fourth of July. It rained and the vehicle hydroplaned hitting a tree taking her life and three others. They were sober. I'm crying right now because when I saw your boy, oh my. Thank you for sharing my friend. I have walked a very similar road as you. Guess what Roy and Amie as well as Rickey's boy made this connection we have and they are safe and home.. Xo

Thank you, my friend. Your words touch my heart. Isn't it strange how all three of us here on FanStory are connected in the same way. It is a sad thing to lose a child and never know what they would have been.

Dear Bluebirds,

First let me say I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your son something no parent should have to endure. This is a powerful write and is both sad and bright. It points out the bond that can exist between a pet and a boy, a bond that will only end with the passing of the cat.

Warm regards,

Winslow

Thank you, Winslow. This all happened way back in 1985. It is finally getting so I can talk and write about it some. The cat grieved as much as anyone. Iggy slept in Roy's room until the day she died.

Oh, I am so sorry for your loss! When I read your story a second time, I was struck by a thought that your son was so lucky to have such love and devotion from a pet. To hear that the pet was a cat, an animal not widely credited with loyalty and devotion, well your son must have really been a special person!

Thank you, my friend. Cats are extremely loving animals. They are not like dogs but show their affection in different ways. Iggy grieved for Roy as much as anyone. She slept in Roy's room until the day she died.

Thank you. This happened in 1985. It was years before I could talk about my son without tears running down my face. Even writing this little piece brought the tears. One never gets over the loss of a child. Thak you for caring.

Hi mystery author, this is a really good entry for this particular competition, a really sad and heartrending story that would have been hertbreaking enough as fiction, but knowing it isn't - well - I wish you the very best of luck in the contest my friend.

This is a sad story. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your son at such a young and promising age. The devotion of a pet makes that even more poignant as it waits for him to return. Good luck in the contest.

Excellent Aunt Ruth.

I do believe I remember Iggy. She looked a lot like my Misty. Misty was a lot fatter though. She really liked her hard food.

I didn't know she was Roy's cat though.

Love you Auntie

Thanks. Angie. You might remember Iggy. She used to lay on your dad's lap when you guys came for Thanksgiving dinner. Iggy was a small grey striped cat. Roy found her in the cornfield when she was a kitten. She was definitely Roy's cat. She would watch for the school bus and meet Roy at the end of the driveway. Roy always scooped her up and carried her to the house. Boy, that was a long time ago. Love, Auntie

A truly sad and very heart breaking story that you composed with so few words. This must have been very painful to write.

Thank you. It was very hard to write. I could hardly see the keys on my computer. This happened in 1985 but it never gets any easier. Thank you for your compassion.
