This must have been a heart wrenching story to pen. This tragedy has been lovingly recalled in this narrative that connects the love of a cat for its owner. The most poignant element in this outside of Roy's death, is the vigil Iggy keeps outside Roy's bedroom door. Very nicely written, such a tragic story in just 60 words. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you. This happened in 1985 but it is still hard to talk or write about. Thank you for caring.

This was a tragic and painful story to read about your son and his beloved kitty. I can't even imagine having to live this nightmare as you are doing. My sincerest sympathy in the loss of Roy. Then reading your profile, more tragedy. My brother in law is/was a dairy farmer. I commend you both, it is hard work and it never stops. No such thing as vacation.

Your 60 prompt, although sad, is also beautiful in that cats are quite picky about who they love. You son, Roy, must have been a very special soul.

Thank you. Roy loved cats and Iggy loved him. Iggy was more like a dog than a cat. She followed Roy everywhere and waited for the school bus every day. She missed Roy as much as the rest of us. Thank you for caring.

This is a beautiful, sad story and you managed to wrap it up so nicely in sixty words, I'm sure the pain goes on. People talk all the time about a dog being man's best friend, but there are some pretty special cats out there, also.

Thank you. I have one dog and seven cats. Of course, the dog is a great friend but so are the cats. Each cat has a different personality and is unique in their own way. My son loved cats and Iggy was his special friend. She looked for Roy until the day she died and always slept in his room.

I am so sorry for your loss. This is a sad, sad story. It shares the love that animals feel for their masters. I've witnessed it with dogs before. The kitty must have felt gratitude for his care.

Thank you. Cats can become every bit as devoted as dogs. Iggy followed Roy around just like a dog would and she missed him until the day she died.

Hi there,

A good job telling this tale in the constrictions of the sixty words. A very emotional and sad piece. Animals do have an uncanny sense of loyalty.

All the best

Thank you, my friend. This happened in 1985 but one never gets over the loss of a child. I will miss my son until the day I die, just like Iggy did.

A profound 60 words if ever there were. My heart goes out to you, your family and Iggy. Our losses can shape the world in which we live. I feel a resonant sadness tinged with hope. Best.

Thank you. This happened in 1985. I still find it hard to talk about so I write about it instead. One never gets over the loss of a child. Thank you for the six stars.

PBB-
Wow! I am both impressed with your story and stunned that you could share it in 66 words. How sorry I felt to enjoy your story, although it is difficult not to enjoy and be amazed at the loyalty of our pets.
Sorry you had to go through that. Thank you sharing it.

Thank you. This happened in 1985. I still find it impossible to talk about so maybe I can write about it some. One never gets over the loss of a child.

What a desperately sad story!...even more poignant because it's true : (
You have definitely told a complete story with this. It's to the point, says it like it is but it is also charged with emotion for the loss of a young life and this little cats best friend.
Lovely read, thank you so much for sharing : )

Thank you. This happened in 1985. Iggy never forgot Roy until the day she died. She slept in his room and I often saw her looking down the road when it was time for the school bus. One never gets over the loss of a child.

Oh, wow. Fairly heartbreaking post. It's funny sometimes, that even with the toll something like what happened to Roy (so sorry, btw) can have with the humans who knew him, maybe the sympathy doesn't quite hit home until it's told from a different perspective.

It does make you wonder what animals think some times, and is so sad that we can't explain things like this to them.

Wonderful story. Sad, but wonderful.

Thank you. This all happened in 1985. It is still hard to write about the incident. Iggy grieved for Roy for several months. She slept in Roy's room until the day she died.

Slim Dusty has a song like this. It's called "Rusty, It's goodbye." A real tearjerker.
A lot of my family has been injured or killed in the rural life. It can be fairly brutal.
A very nice story about a faithful pet.
This is the 2nd story tonight that's brought tears to my eyes.

Thank you. This happened way back in 1985 but it is still a hard thing to remember. I miss my son every day.
