This is a very nice 3-4-4 haiku poem
concise moment that opens thought
Excellent imagery in the furled lily
and reflective thought in the poised promise
of resurrection
Each spring there are rebirths
promises embedded in nature
reflective of greater promises
Excellent art work to match poem
Very nicely done

Nice haiku, WFD. I liked the consonance with "l" in "furled lily", and the alliteration in "poised for promised". The flowers were ready for Jesus' resurrection. But there was no one there when the stone was rolled away. His closest friends and followers really didn't believe that He would rise again. Even His mother Mary, who had been visited by the angel thirty-some years before, wasn't there that morning. Many of the disciples and friends were hiding, fearing for their lives lest they would be taken and crucified as well. They saw first-hand what the Romans did to Jesus. It was fresh in their minds. The women were off to the tomb that third morning, not to welcome Him back from death but to adorn His body with spices and flowers. Yet, when they came, the stone was rolled away and Jesus was gone. An angel stood to tell them where they could find the risen Christ. Were they ever shocked! Surprised beyond belief! But they were really no better than Doubting Thomas. They weren't "poised for (the) promised resurrection". But creation was. Creation is!
There's a verse about the rocks crying out if we don't, let me see if I can come up with it...
from the New International Version,
"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out." Luke 19:40
Isn't it something that creation is ready for Jesus' return, but we aren't. We are like Lot's wife, who loved her life back in Sodom. She looked back...
"But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt." Genesis 19:26

Sorry for carrying on here, WFD. But your poem inspired. We need to be watchers. We need to be singing every dawn, like the birds.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi, FF. Thank you for your very thoughtful review. I didn't mind your re-counting of the words of Jesus.

I really like this thought as well: 'we need to be singing every dawn, like the birds.'

    Couldn't agree more.

What a beautiful picture & nice poem.

Many flowers around here have bloom. However, they are going to be shocked with low temps in the low's 30's a few days this week.

Thanks for sharing this. JW

What amazing art work. It is so lovely and the words fit it too. These short poems are the hardest to write. I think you did an excellent job. Thank you for this day.

I don't think your work needed a picture to accompany it. It was lovely. Very elegant, in fact. It was a quiet and reverent feeling that you captured in so few words. Beautifully written. Gretchen

A well written haiku. A great symbol for the resurrection and a great piece of artwork to compliment your poem. Keep on writing for Poetry month.

This is a beautiful poem --with lovely presentation. I would have chosen this artwork too--regardless of it not being an image with lilies it is wonderful and offers much to your poem. Love the words furled and poised for promise. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bev, this picture may not feature the Lilies you mention, but there is a definite link to the coming whitsun period and the resurrection my friend.

Eric, thank you very much for this very kind and generous review. I, especially, liked the fairies in the artwork. I believe the nature spirits, who hardly ever get credit, keep all of creation in good order.
