Oh crap, Craig. Where ever did you find that picture? I'd sure be scared if that shadow was coming up my stairs. LOL. I think it was the word IT and the rest of the description that got us all going on Pennywise the killer clown in Stephen King's IT.
Having said that what a relief to find out it was only the shadow of the man you used to be. You are a much better man now.
Oh and by the way, what a beautifully written free verse. You write em up like a pro.
Glad to see you made it back safe and sound from camping. :))

The image was the first thing that came up when I googled "public domain picture shadow" - and I thought "that'll do!"
I don't know where that all came from - I'm actually in a "happy place" most of the time - especially after a fun weekend away!
As usual, I'm astonished by the variety of entries. And I was mildly pleased and surprised that I managed to actually get something down, given my total terror at not having the safety net of rhyme and meter :)

Scary when your own thoughts become your nemesis. The shadows that scare us are often our own. I do like the wickedness in this writing . It intriques me.

A haunting piece that kills with that unexpected ending. It really amplifies everything which was already biting and strong because, hell, I think that occurs to everyone and more often then we'd like to admit. Amazing what we can do in such a short time. Awesome work. mikey

I don't know where it came from actually. I'd just got back minutes earlier from a lovely camping trip, so I wasn't exactly in a dark place lol. Thanks Mikey.
