Roy,
A beautiful and very thoughtful poem about the season. I enjoyed it very much and wish you (only a LITTLE) luck in the contest -- 'cause I'm entered too! hahaha

JK~!

Favorite lines:
For love will walk that extra mile
love only wants to give;
it suffers long - resists all wrong,
concerned that you should live.

So when you think of love's great cost
and think, deserve your rights;
they're only based on self's great needs...
don't write them up in lights.

This is, of course, perfect for the Easter poem contest, Roy. This is what Easter is all about, although many seem to have forgotten the point of it. It is a lovely one of Jesus' sacrifice for us. Excellent, my friend, perfect rhyme and easy rhythm. Good luck! xsx Sandra

A beautiful Easter poem about the greatest sacrifice of all times--the death of our Savior for our sins, and to give us back a relationship with the Father. You also spoke of man's selfishness and how we believe we deserve more than we do. Also a good point was that God wants us to live, and that may seem something we all know, but there are those who think that because we die, God is just waiting for us on "the other side", and doesn't care whether we live. He does, and we need to remember that!

Great job,
Rhonda

This is a great poem about the true reason we celebrate Easter. I think the poem is flawless until the very last stanza. I'm not so sure about the ellipses at the end, but I also don't know what you would do to set that phrase apart, which I assume is why you went with the ellipses. Maybe just a comma?

Other than that, I have no suggestions. My favorite stanza is the second. Specifally, "placate that blow and turn the other cheek;" is a good line to remember. Is it Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek, or how he turned the other cheek to our sins and forgot them after they were redeemed on the cross?

This is a great poem.

This is a very well written thought provoking, philosophical poem. The following verse says it all:
So when you think of love's great cost
and think, deserve your rights;
they're only based on self's great needs...
don't write them up in lights.

This is good advice, Roy:
"So when you think of love's great cost
and think, deserve your rights;
they're only based on self's great needs...
don't write them up in lights."
But, sometimes we write--which is a catharsis and therapy for us. Perhaps others who are struggling with the same problem may identify with our words and it helps them--makes them feel they are not alone. Your poem is excellent, flows and rhymes well, with great content. Marilyn

Quatrains of iambic tetrameter lines alternating with iambic trimeter. Rhyme scheme abcb. The only break in the rhythm comes at the start of S2 which is a headless iamb. This trouble hair start is quite acceptable as a difference drawing attention to the importance of it being the words of Jerusalem.

Dear Roy,
I so appreciate your wonderful poetry about our Lord. Yes he gave it all for us. We don't, nor ever will deserve it, but as the epitome of love, he willingly died for us. Then arose so that we can do the same and follow him to a 'mansion' he has prepared. What a wonderful and awesome God we serve.
Thank you for this lovely piece.
Love, Carolyn
