You have a fantastic opening.
This isn't the kind of article that should be shared exclusively with FanStory but should bombard ever newspaper in first world countries. Why does it seem too idealistic? Because too many people don't want it to chose the kinder way. If the word gets out forcefully enough maybe it will reach those who will 'make the change,' Band together, folks!

Thank you so much for the six-star review and the supportive comments.

Alas, even if I had the kind of reach to spread this far and wide, I would be dismissed as an airy-fairy nutter. And yet, to me, it seems the only way out of the vicious circle of hatred and killing we have enclosed ourselves in.

Possibly you are right. Wars end in either peace or annihilation. Mostly an ugly peace, with numerous exceptions. Why drag it out? Fear and his sibling, Greed. When will they ever learn? When the Vulcans make First Contact? I didn't see anything to gripe about in your writing.

Hi Steve

A fabulous essay. Interesting, entertaining in the wit of your own personal style and completely informative. You make a good point about Fear becoming the focus of lives around the world, exactly what the terrorists want. A smooth, easy read that anyone can understand ... surely? I like your solution, and it wouldn't cost a dime. I do wonder if it is too late ... we could have been providing medical aid , education, and the basic necessities for many, many years. I guess it was more in the interest of the money moguls to keep third world countries that way so we could have cheap goods. Now it's the dream of those same greedy so and so's to have the first world countries fall into third world categories, so they can effect globalisation ... only the mega rich who own the monopolies, and the deliberately-kept poor working class. Oh no, Dr Mo (Money Mogul) is taking over the world!!!! HELP!!!

I can't see why your work would offend anyone, it all makes perfectly good sense to me. Well ... maybe it is only a dream. One I wished could come true. :))

I have a dream: if we start right on our own front door, we could solve the problems of the free, supposedly first world countries. Drive drugs and alcohol off the planet, feed our own starving and educationally deprived. Make GOOD education a priority, stop bullying, racism, improve our health services, stop young kids living on the streets, dying young, causing damage and one punch death... drink driving. Of course I do understand that our New South Wales need to spend so much money on having the best up-to-date football fields so that we can attend and create rival team riots, fans going mad and moronic; provide an extra excuse to get fuelled on alcohol ... just make them pay top dollar for it and don't let them bring their own. Ooooops, so sorry, I divert to another topic ... or am I???? Though I do wish people would get a bit more Fear over the destruction of our own and our planet's and resources, rainforests.

Your essay has invoked thought and emotions in me, so it must have served its purpose already ... begin with just One. :))) Great work, great suggestion ... I love those who create awareness, even if to some it will fall on deaf ears. I wish I had a six for this one Steve. Well done. Hugs - Lovi xoxox

Love, thanks for the wonderful, thoughtful review.

I'm thinking about some sort of follow-up to this, so I might well incorporate ideas that have come from you and others

The Doctor Mo effect is one thought, as is the 'charity begins at home' concept. The Dr Mos who profit directly from the sale of weapons and military technology have a lot to answer for and if a decent share of that money could be channeled towards peaceful solutions and a cure for society's ills - well, wouldn't that be nice?

Thanks again - I wish I could touch more than the few people who read this on here...

The two great commandments are Love the Lord and Love thy neighbor. If we would all love our friends and our enemies then as you said--life could be Fear free. How many generations would that take. Thank you for a well written paper. We need to all take it to heart.

Oh no! They are too busy playing politics in D.C. to do anything constructive. The worse thing I can see happening in that respect would be for either Trump or Hillary to get into office. Then It will all be over. Your solution is wonderful! Kiwisteveh For President! LOL :<) Nancy

Hi Steve,
Wow what a fantastic write you have created and I suspect will attract many different questions, answers, and debates. Your idea is both brilliant and logical. Sadly Politicians don't run on logic they only speak out or act on something that will bring them personal gain, i.e a bigger ego, higher status, recognition to name just a few. Watching Donald Trump is like watching someone on a huge self induced ego trip that will result in only him standing to make a gain.
I know very little of politics but I am good at smelling a rat.
Enough said.

It's becoming more and more apparent that the world is run on the smell of money and human lives are fairly expendable.

Some interesting thoughts here, Steve. You must really like our new Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. He has tossed the homeless out of their new facilities to bring in thousands of Syrian refugees. He's giving them lots of our money so they can live comfortably and make a new life here. So much for our homeless and senior citizens. His idea of dealing with ISIS is to skip from fox hole to fox hole offering them hugs while the airplanes overhead drop teddy bears and winter coats.

While your ideas sound good, I can picture the education recipients using their freely given educated minds to build bigger bombs. I'm not totally sold on your thoughts. Hey, write a letter to Trudeau and Trump and they may just like your ideas. Might invite you to a tea party while you watch the wall being built between U.S. and Mexico. That'd be great fun.

    Thanks, Joy.

I don't know too much about the new Monsieur Trudeau - perhaps he's a man after my own heart - except for the bit about evicting the homeless. Are you sure that's for real? Can you give me a link to the story?

My equations say, if we stop spending money on weaponry, we will have more than enough to support the needy in our own societies as well as being able to help those in their foxholes - not ISIS!
