Well written tribute sure she would appreciate.

There is nothing like a mother, and a mother will do anything for her children, even conquer their own fears to ensure the child is safe.

Mothers must be treasured while they are still here.

They will be sorely missed when they are gone.

Should be a good contest entry.

Thanks, Brett. My mother has been gone for many years but she is still my number one hero.

Hi Aunt Ruth,

I hope you are compiling these into a book. These are great stories. The family would love to have these. My generation hears all the stories but what of the next?

Well done. I could feel the fear you had and how strong Grandma was in each word. Keep up the good work.

Good luck in the contest.

Thanks, Angie. I have all these saved on Word. I don't know what, if anything I will ever do with them It is fun writing them. Maybe I will give them to you someday and you can put them in a book.

I would love to do that when you are ready. :)

What a great story. And you are correct, our mother's are our heroes.

This was a terrific write. You managed to wrap so many elements into this yarn. There was rebellion, there was a little boy's lack of logic and finally, courage. Like I said, a great story

Thanks, Bob. I'm not a man, I'm a grown up little girl. Thanks for the five stars I appreciate them.

One of those true-life-vignettes that we all have floating in our memory banks from those years we all made it through and in retrospect we wonder why. Good one mystery writer.

Thank you. I was only four but I never forgot that day. It's funny how some memories stay so clear in one's mind and other things you cannot remember. Guess that's life.

Hi there,

A well written piece of recollection and nostalgia on display here. Your writing has a nice tone to it which is very inviting.

I didn't like him very well. - perhaps very much?

Tarzen of the jungle - Tarzan

All the best

It's surprising the things that were just accepted in those days, yet young people who throw their arms up in horror at them now. I grew up a generation behind you, but I grew up on isolated cattle stations, so technology was a bit lacking out there.
I remember Mum cooking on a wood stove. Using kerosene lanterns around campdrafts. VERY little TV. If we had time for it, there was no reception.
No such thing as computer games back then. We had to make our own fun. exploring, riding pigs etc

Thanks. Yep, things were a lot different back then. I wonder how many young people today could live and work as we did.

What a great reflective piece. They say in times of dire need, when one's offspring or loved ones are in danger the human body is capable of achieving miraculous feats. Clearly mama bear was in such a moment! You described the situation so vividly I could visualize the experience flawlessly in my mind.
Such a beautiful memory.
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks. Yep, with twelve children my mother had to be a hero a lot of times.

I have enjoyed following along on your true story because you not only put a lot of yourself into your writing but you put your emotions in as well. I think you may want to spell check Tarzen should be Tarzan.

Great story about your mother - yes, a mother's love will inspire her to do amazing things. Such a feat as this, from a woman who is afraid of heights, is worthy of heroine status :)
