This is a beautiful story. It's clear and easily understood. Mom's had to do a lot of things back then that they wouldn't think of doing today. Now they'd just call 911 and get some guys out with big ladders to rescue you.

A lovely story about a mother's love for her young child. I think a mother would do anything to protect her children. I hope you found the cat after all that as well.
Good luck.

Thanks. Yeah, the cat wasn't far away. I think she moved her kittens sometimes because of too many kids playing with them.

This is a sweet story about a mother's love. I think you need to try and write it in a more conversational tone as at the moment it is really like a lot of sentences mashed together. The sentences are quite short which causes the pace to be fast. You could elicit a lot more emotion and sympathy if you gave it more of a narrative feel.

These are just my thoughts. I hope this helps but feel free to ignore my advice!

Thanks. I always appreciate honest, helpful reviews. However, you are the only reviewer who rated it lower than five or six stars. It was meant to be a short, fast paced story. I will keep your tips in mind when I write my next story. Thank you again.

Nice reflection of your mom. I have a great fear of heights too, I can only imagine how horrified your mother must have been when she saw you, I bet she didn't give her fear of heights on a second thought. I did not see any typos or corrections needed in your story. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you. Thanks for the six stars. My mother deserves them whether I do or not. She was a marvelous mother and raised twelve children the old hard way. We all loved her very much.

You are so right about a mother's love. Your mother had no choice but to put her fear on hold and save her child. Very well written story. I could picture the whole story as you told it. It is so typical and as a child, you never stop to think of what might happen until it is too late. good luck in the contest.

There is no doubt that your mother would be your hero. Heroes come in different shapes, sizes and titles. To be a hero we must overcome our own fears to save the life of another. Good luck in the contest. Patricia

This is an exceptionally well written story capturing a mother's love beyond the fear that would normally hold her back. You developed the built up very well, the bored and frustrated child and through the rescue triggered memories of our own "Hero" growing up many years ago.

Very well done,
Ron

OH yes, the good old woodstove usually a slow combustion if my memory hasn't failed. And the milking and washing the separator after. My mother did the sewing that wasn't my task. Regards Mabaker.

Thanks. So, you had a milk separator too. I remember having to wash that thing, it had all those little plates that had to be perfectly clean. Thanks for reminding me of that.

A lovely memory of what your Mum did that day. Yes, it was indeed dangerous, and then to find out that Your Mum was afraid of heights. No wonder she was a hero of yours. Good luck in the contest. All the best. Ulla
