You bring the story and the characters to life with your attention to small details such as your perspective and that of Frank's about the cat. You lay good groundwork and weave it into the story in a logical way that makes the facts come to life. I know the story is biographical, but not everyone can bring their own life to the page and make it interesting to others.

I am so sorry for your suffering but I thank you for your gift of sharing your story. My dog is what binds my husband and I together. He is our love and our joy. I wish you luck in the future and hope you continue sharing.

Re about two paragraphs into this, an old thought triggered. "Worry works. 99% of the things I worry about never happen.

I did the recovery bit after a knee replacement ... never again.

The point about worry is so true. Now with FS, I don't have the time to fret. That's a good thing.
Knee replacement would be much worse.
Never again I say to any surgery and am about to boycott doctor visits. Sit for an hour or more. Wasted day!
    Thanks for the review, Pyrrho.

You need to sue the doctors in my opinion. How will healthcare change if you don't get in their pockets. You are an outstanding authoress as I call it. I have a little wisdom in liability of medical providers. Keep em coming dear. It's a great day when one can finally focus on themselves. God Bless.

Honestly, I'm about to swear off doctors and heal myself. Any appointment takes two hours out of my day including travel and wait time!
I got all the documents to go for sue. Then the lawyer said he didn't take those kind of cases! I was too frustrated to pursue it later. Doctors in Florida do not have a good reputation.
    Thanks for your interest.

Oh, my goodness! What a lot of drama. A week in the hospital with Frank being so ill was no joke. And just look at that black eye!
At least, you appear to be well and back at the helm now.

Walking wise, I'll never be the same. I still limp a little and certainly can't jog, let alone run. At one time the whole lid of my eye was black!
Have to stay well now to take care of Frank.:-) If he falls, I won't waste time. 911 is great, I've heard and free.

Ouch, I fractured my femur in my accident but it became infected and never would have healed. After a year and a half of 12 painful surgeries, 26 weeks of IV antibiotics and months of painful rehab, I was ready for the amputation. Isn't getting old and sick so much fun? Well written, my friend~Debbie

Oh no! So you have a prosthetic now? Cheers to you for having the patience to let the surgeons "practice" on you.
reply by dejohnsrld (Debbie) on 25-Feb-2016
No, my balance is so impaired that after 18 months of trying to use a prosthetic, I was falling so much it wasn't safe and I had to give it up after tearing my rotator cuff, so I am in a wheelchair. It's been 12 years, I wouldn't know how to live any other way at this point. They have improved prosthetics, if it happened know, I could probably have used one successfully. That's about the only good that has come from our wars. The military invested huge amounts into prosthetic improvements to help injured soldiers. Their budget is much bigger than that for medical research which is a very sad commentary on our society and our priorities, isn't it? ~Debbie

I think they had a contestant on Dancing
With the Stars who had a prosthetic. Isn't is sad that tragedy has to happen for significant advances in medicine to be made.

I hope that you have gotten all of your bad luck out of the way for goodness sakes. Wow what a tale, I wouldn't believe it if you hadn't said It is real.

I hope it never happens to you and Vicki. Then again, I didn't have to do any cooking for two and a half weeks. :-)

Lois Lane took a tumble for sure...sorry 'bout that...enjoy reading you well told stories always and your loyalty to Frank as well as his to you...we do grow more dependent on each other in marriage...perhaps we always were but didn't realize it as much as we do now...God bless you, Dennis AKA CK

I feel for those who don't have a special someone who grows old along with them.
God blesses us both and you too everyday.

Hi Shari,
I am sorry you had to go through this but your descriptive details are spot on and create vivid imagery all the way. I am not surprised either that even in the midst of your pain you could still inject a bit of humor. "Just shoot me." :-)

Thanks, BG, for your extra high rating and the reasons for it.
That's the first accident I ever had in my life. I hope its the last.

You were lucky to have Frank and your neighbours to help out when you had your accident. The fear of living alone is that you could be lying for days before anyone found you (one of the joys of living in the middle of nowhere!) I now carry my mobile at all times - just in case.

I hope the two weeks you were away from home passed quicker than expected, and Frank didn't have to do that long drive there and back too often. Knowing you, I bet a broken femur didn't keep you confined for long!

I did heal faster than I hoped for. I guess when I live alone I'll invest in a small device that can be worn around the neck. Push a button and a service locates you and gets in touch with people you have listed as help. If that doesn't work, they call 911.

We also have patrol cars that drive 24/7 around the community. On more than one occasion, the drivers have found a man or a woman who are on the ground.
