It is good to hear more about your relationship with Frank and how much the two of you love each other.

You do a good job of showing how much we rely on doctors and trust them to do the right thing. Too bad they don't all deserve that trust, and people suffer due to the bad ones out there.

I admire the love and devotion that you and Frank have for each other.

That love and loyalty seems to shine through every time you write. 'In sickness and in health' springs to mind, and your dedication to each other proves it. I can't believe you couldn't get some kind of compensation for such a botched job on Frank's foot. You obviously loved walking together, so it must have been hard to take.

I dread to think what's coming next!

Yes, the foot never really healed. It still hurts him to walk although I personally think that the more he walked (as long as he wore proper shoes) it would heal. At least it worked for me!

GAG!! SPEW! VOMIT! GAG!

1.) "It's doing fine," (t)he doctor assured him and collected his fifteen dollar co-payment.

GAG! DOUBLE SPEW! CADAVER VOMIT!

2.) the recycle box, make his breakfast and lunch (and) keep the gas tank full.

3.) Back home again, I lugged it (remove space) from the trunk again and assisted

4.) Keep in mind I'm (five) foot two and weighed one hundred and fifteen at the time.

A great chapter that DOES show much love, patience and commitment.

(I have to tell you a secret. My inbox is overflowing - UGH. But I saw your name at the bottom and happily skipped down to read your post as one of my firsts. shhhh...don't tell....)

Oh dear Robyn. I'm quite flattered. Thanks for catching the spags. Boy, you must have great eyesight to spot the spacing problems.
Cadaver -- yeah, that's how I reacted. CREEPY!

The inbox can be your downfall. I'm posting an essay on how I prune mine. :-) I still follow the Bender story, but will have to pass on your grandparents for a while. New rule: Review me and I'll review you. Tit for tat. It's the only way I can keep from being overwhelmed by those who post two a day.

    Hugs,
    Shari

Yep. I get it. And I'm fine with you even skipping me when you want/need to. I'm not one who thinks you HAVE to read me (although if I'm reading EVERYthing you're writing, an occasional return review is nice!) But I get it.

I have gotten several new fans from the 'Picture This' group but I tell them - don't feel like you have to fan everyone in the group - regardless of what someone tells you. I fan people I WANT to read - and I'm still kept pretty busy! Don't fan people and then never go near them again. That's just stupid. Ugh.

Hi Shari,
This post does show the love and loyalty between you and Frank. I agree that love trumps blood every time. I have had to deal with a friend in a wheelchair before and it is not an easy task for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Karen :-)

Thanks for commiserating, BG. :-) I managed to scrap the paint on the car a few times lugging that chair around.

Wow , that picture really grabs the readers attention, and then you keep the attention all the way through the well written true story.

Thanks, DonandVicki. Wish I hadn't torn up the one that showed the staple job. Took the photo from online.

OMG, the doctor cut the Achilles tendon? Woof that's so bad. Oh my land and then it just gets more intense with the cadaver replacement.

Wow, this is quite a story, Shari. The botched surgery is horrific and the doctor was only fined a thousand dollars?

This is a most intriguing story. :))

Thanks, Gloria. Creepy about the cadaver, huh. Who knows it could have belonged to a serial killer. LOL

pullet up the leg rest, (pulled)

The surgery wasn't done in the hospital? How awful. Just the risk of infection alone would be reason to do it in an operating room.

It's good that you take care of each other, but too bad you can no longer travel. Good write, my friend~Debbie

We do manage one more trip to California, but rented wheelchairs or scooters for Frank when we toured several places. More specifics on this later. Caught the spag. Thanks, Debbie.

Beautiful chapter, Shari. Sorry it took so long to get to it. I downloaded it last night along with a dozen or so others in my queue, but (babysitting my 16 year-old over Valentine's day + a new boyfriend) didn't allow me much time for reading. The story goes on, but I won't bore you. Anyway, I'm sure you've already corrected the spag below and if I had downloaded the story today I'd have a super scrubbed story. Your content, as usual, was sterling. I am so sorry for all that Frank went through.

and assisted Frank out of the car, pullet up the leg rest, [... PULLED up the leg rest]

No apologies needed especially when you favor me with a six.:-) Heck, I'm so behind in my reviewing. Bet you sure kept a eye on your daughter? and her latest squeeze. Remember those hormonal days?

What a horrible experience. I can relate to this. When I broke all (and I do mean all) of the bones in my upper foot, it required 13 surgeries to fix. Unlike you, I had an excellent doctor that knew what he was doing. I cringed as I read what your husband had to go through and got angry when you mentioned the doctor just disappeared. I look forward to the next installment. Very nice work with this one.

Thanks, Sasha. That experience changed his life since he had to give up travel, but he still dreams about going back to Germany someday or Italy.

I feel for Frank. I was lucky to have great doctor's for my many feet surgeries,3 in total. Now, I'm dealing with tendinitis in both ankles! Also, thanks for the tip about when to change shoes. I think that's been my problem.
This was a well written piece not only about medical responsibility from the patient and doctor's end, but caring for your love one. You'll realize who in your family has your back when you ask them to help you either for short term or little while. Good chapter& well presented theme.

Thanks, Muffins. He's now been officially diagnosed with Achilles tendenitus. On the bright side, we can legally park in handicapped spots now.
My mother told me to always buy the best shoes even if they are expensive. Since I have a narrow foot, it's hard to find anything less than eighty dollars.
