Hi ...
This is my first time to read you. I'm so glad i did!
What a heart-warming, endearing story! Your Aunt Lorene sounds like a wonder, loving, caring person. And what patience!
I felt this way about my maternal grandfather. He died in 1966 while I was in Vietnam and I didn't get to go to his funeral. I was heart-broken. He had a third-grade education and was the smartest man I've ever known.
I loved your story about your Aunt Lorene ... very touching!
Wishing you the very best ...
Alan
PS: Good luck in the contest!

Alan - Thank you so much for your insight and encouragement. I am glad you had a wise man in your life. I am sorry about his funeral - that is tough. It is obvious that he loved you and that he knew you loved him. Take comfort in that.
Education has nothing to do with wisdom. A caring heart and a careful eye are what are needed. My aunt made it to sixth grade - then had to take over caring for her 11 younger siblings when my grandmother's health became very bad. Lorene lived longer than any of her siblings. God kept her around to touch a whole lot of lives.
God bless and my best,
Relda

Hi Relda ...
You are correct in all that you replied. My grandfather had more insight of life and it's various obstacles and rewards than anyone I have know. he taught me a lot about life.
Have a wonderful weekend. Alan

This was a very good read that focused on a special bond between Aunt and niece. I liked how you gave your aunt some realism by adding the A's to her words.

What a wonderful story. You told it very well. Now I wish I could meet your Aunt Lorene myself. She sounds like a woman filled with love. Your parents weren't religious, I suppose, so I can see why she annoyed your parents.
Just one thing... Where was this? IN the south? I ask because here in the midwest, Rose of Sharon is a summer bloomer, not spring.

Hi Phyllis - yes, south central Florida, Polk County. Also has a long growing season in north Florida, where I live. Had leaves budding out in January because the winter had been so mild and then we had a couple of days of nights dropping below freezing for a few hours and it looks like the leaves may drop too. My 'trees' normally bloom from mid-March through late September - some last a few weeks longer. Amazing.
Thanks for your review and comments. Appreciate the insight and encouragement.
God bless and my best,

This is a wonderful non-fiction entry into the contest. I enjoyed
reading every word. You've kept the flow and interest of your
reader. Imagery was fantastic, describing everything from the
parents conversation to Aunt Lorene's garden and accent. Very
nice indeed. Marilyn

It is so good to meet kindred souls.
So glad you 'got' my aunt. Most of her contemporaries thought she was peculiar, but I know she was wise in God's eyes ... and mine.
God bless and my best,

Every child should be lucky enough to have an aunt Lorene to love and be loved by. You have beautifully described your family, your aunt, and your aunt's house with vivid emotional detail as well as clear physical detail. I can picture you sitting in a quiet spot with the kitten in your arms and warmth and love all around you no matter how long the experience lasted. well done

Wasn't it significant for you, she must have sore spread the love of God in your heart Relda, why else would you have spoken of her. That dear lady in her own sweet way regaled your heart with tales of God's sweet love sealed in Jesus' love. I'm sure her prayers and witness drew your young heart, well done, beautifully scribed and presented, well done, blessings, Roy

Roy - thank you for this wonderful review. You have such deep spiritual insight. What my aunt told me of Jesus was all I heard about him until I was 18. I was never invited to church by anyone. I know my aunt would have if she thought my father would have allowed it. Anyway, I wandered into a country revival at 18 and I understood everything I hear (aunt Lorene's seeds!) and I accepted Jesus that night.
God bless and my best,
Relda

What a marvellous testimony, you understood! We can plant and water the seed, but it's still our decision, then God gives the increase. He gave you a love for your dear quirky Aunt, what a witness, Praise His name.
