This is a lovely story, Relda. A sweet bond between a little girl and her favourite Aunt. She sounds like a lovely gentle soul. Everyone should have an Aunt Lorene. Good luck in the contest.

The good book says we often entertain angels unaware. I think an angel entertained me.
Thank you for your comments and insight.

Beautiful story. I really enjoyed reading this. A great story about a great person. This story is already perfect and there isn't anything I would change about it.

I love this woman too. She seemed magical. I love how you described feeling safe and noticed while you were in her presence. Great dialogue and I could hear her in my mind. Great story. Gretchen

Thank you for the confirmation. She was special. A lot of people looked down on her but she never minded and never stopped extending love their way. I think she understood her purpose for being on this earth - to be an encourager in the Lord.
God bless and my best ... and thank you also for the stars!

This is a great story. It proves that anyone can make a difference in someone's life. How lucky you were to have her in your life. I'm sure you've passed that lesson on to many over the years. Well written!

So lucky! And I do try to pass it on. Interesting thing is the ones who need it the most are also the ones who most appreciate the little things. I had an autistic 5-yr old in the Sunday School I taught. I tried every thing for months - no headway. Then his mother mentioned he loved apple juice. After that I kept a kid's cartoon of juice in my purse and gave it to him when class was over and it was just the two of us. Something just for him. And I blessed him with the Lord's love. He's 10 now and very active with contemporaries at church. He always has a hug for me.
Thank you for understanding my aunt and me.

What a wonderful story you've told, Relda!

I could not have loved your story more. Your characters were perfectly developed, and there was not one change I would suggest.

I could sense the love between your parents although they strongly disagreed about visiting your Aunt Lorene. I also understood why you felt the strong love and connection to your Aunt Lorene. She was surely your Fairy Godmother, at least in your mind; and that's what mattered.

You've done a beautiful job. Surely, your story is a winner. Well done, my friend. Take care. Alana

Alana - so glad you like it. Means a lot. My mom and dad were children in the 'great depression' then married at the beginning of WWII. They weren't big on religion before that time, but dad and she decided they were going to 'live-it-up' for the rest of their life. Mom even had to negotiate bringing children into the mix by promising they would not affect their lifestyle in any way. Believe it - they did a good job doing that.
Thanks again. Encouragement is a wonderful tonic for what ails you!

Lovely, sweet, and tender. You weave a sweet spell that draws us into this day in the past when your aunt made you happy, safe, and warm for the short amount of time you spent with her. I can understand why she felt like magic. Sometimes, those who are unique are here to open doorways that allow us to appreciate ourselves. I would have loved to meet this special woman. She makes me think of the women--and some of the men--from own childhood, who never made me feel different, because they were comfortable with their own idiosyncrasies and thought nothing of my own differences--a lazy eye, bony knees, wheezy lungs, and an almost crippling shyness. God bless all of them. They made us whole.

You descriptions of her home and that fairyland are wonderfully well written and paint a picture that keeps us enthralled, as does the tale of the wild kitten and the little talks about Jesus. I am familiar with those, too.

Thank you for putting me in a time machine and taking me back in time. My own mother used Cashmere Bouquet, and I see it here and there in dollar stores, though not often, and I always get a box for her. She is 84 now. That tender scent lingers for months--jasmine and talcum. Wonderful.

Thanks again. It was a magical trip. I wish I had a six for you.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I am so glad 'special people' are willing to do 'special things' for children. It doesn't take much time and certainly not money and reaps so much happiness. My aunt passed a few years ago - the oldest of twelve siblings and the last one to go. I guess God wanted her to touch a lot of folk's lives before He called her home.
I appreciate your review a lot.

I'm so sorry to hear of your aunt's passing! That's why these people are so familiar--my mother is the youngest of eleven siblings, and her mother had fifteen brothers and sisters by two different mothers. Those women and men are happy to be themselves and enjoy life, as well as to share the beauty that they find all around them. They seem to have some sort of special powers of perception. I miss that generation so much.

God bless you on your continuing journey. I'm so glad that you had the joy of your aunt for the time that you did. Yes, those special people are gifts in a child's life.

Grateful for them; grateful for your story.

    Have a great night.

What a heart-warming story. It does seem like magic that your aunt new just what to say and how to treat you so you felt like a princess with a fairy godmother. I am sur it was the genuine love she had for you that provided that magic.

Good descriptions a me excellent dialog.
