Inspirational. I just may come up with a companion piece, because I think this just has to keep going. I have reported people when the writer said, "oh, I don't want to tattle. Don't want to get anybody in trouble." My silent response to that was, "Then just let people walk on you. They will." My action, however, was to dig through the old offending reviewers comments and write a long report to site administration. The site took action.

Hi, Nor!! You won't believe it. There's about eighteen pieces posted on this. I've never seen anything like it. It would be awesome to hear your voice on this. I'm pretty new here, posted a couple of stories and got my jollies, but I have wondered about the wider community and how this site really goes.

I've been the victim of reworded internet jokes. Yep, I'm still seething. Hahaha! Only a year ago. It takes time. Thanks for stopping by. It looks like this has taken off this time. There's about twenty posts in poetry and prose. It's a riot or a love in. Fun anyway. :)) mikey

A rant is a rant by any name. This reads as though you disdain constructive criticism. If that is so, I clearly disagree with you.
My poetic crafts were already mature when I first participated on the site, but much to my surprise, my ability to write excellent prose was deficient in many ways and three hard-working reviewers taught me more than I ever imagined there was to know about writing skills.
Your writing is excellent, your content is three-star at best.

I LOVE constructive criticism and improved ten-fold on three and four star reviews, many from some rather unfriendly folk. I'm not referring to anything like that here. Someone marking a writer down because they don't know the meaning of a simple English word is not constructive criticism, at least in my opinion. In any case, I appreciate your insights and I always take opinions that are offered with good spirit under consideration with thanks. Appreciate the compliment as well. mikey

Well said. I am pretty new here and came in on my Aunt's recommendation. I have the same feelings and really appreciate all the posts people have put out there lately. I really hope this changes how some people review--they know who they are.

One of the reasons I am on this site, is because I enjoy reading so many wonderful poems, stories and scripts. I am shocked that someone would give only one star for a poem or essay requesting prayer for one of our members who is ill. Maybe they need to read some stories about compassion.

The good news is, a lot of people jumped on board with posts and it had a positive effect. It's always nice to know you're not alone. Lurking in the background myself, I'm enjoying reading this wonderful community effort to put reviewing on FanStory in perspective. I've been on this site for awhile and way back in my portfolio is a similar rant, which preceded my leaving the site for a while. I needed a respite from the grief. Came back of course because I do love posting periodically and reading the excellent writing of several of you on the site. But, I'm here on my terms, not those of the site. I try not to get wrapped up in ratings, contest winning (although $100 bucks is always nice!), tantrums, sucking up for the sake of friends and building a fan base, etc. etc. My observation over the years is that the structure of this site fosters many of the grievances of those who choose to be members of the site. And, people are on the site for many different reasons (including those who have a need to toot their own horns or demonstrate their "power" - or ignorance, in some cases). Anyway, I try not to enter the fray anymore. But, I do support the effort of you and others to address this issue in a positive and creative way (through your writing) and I am very impressed with the "newer" crop of talented writers on the site and the many communal efforts. P.S. Your piece is extremely well written. Flows well, tempers the passion with humor, and makes the point effortlessly and with clarity. Sue

Hi, Sue. Well, the dust has settled already and I'm catching up. (my new years resolution. ha!) Lots of folks jumped in on this one and there were twenty or so postings all over the front page on this and related topics. It helped too, lots of positive results. I actually read that exchange and COULD NOT believe it. She never returned, did she? Well, another twenty or so fellow members joined me in this and plastered the front page with posts on this and related matters. It made a difference too. Lots of positive results. People are reporting now and there's very few reports now of this nonsense. Thanks for responding, sorry I'm so late, but that way I get to deliver good news. :)) mikey
