This is fabulous, Missy. The message here is subtle --not "in-your-face"--because it doesn't have to be. Black, White (this could pertain to people of all races, colors and creeds), working together as one to create harmony. Top it all off with the beautiful image of an old piano, and you've got yourself the makings of a poetic masterpiece.

A wonderful take on the photo for the Picture This poetry group challenge.

Well done! ~Dean

I really hate to do this but because I am ill at the moment and have so many to reply to I am gonna copy and paste this generic and unsatisfactory reply to all my lovely reviews. Please forgive me.

    Consider it done, Missy.
Sometimes, circumstances dictate we must do this. Otherwise we will never get any writing done.

No worries, and you're more than welcome.

I enjoyed your challenge poem. I see it as commentary on society--it takes all kinds to create harmony but it has to be worked at! Good job and thanks for sharing.

Great picture you picked Missy. Music (and your poem) does have soul in it - soul is what turns a poem into poetry as well.

Nice, I feel like this one goes deeper than the other poem you posted, but that the other one is more light hearted. They go together like the black keys and white keys, very well done.

Thanks again, KK. I have a hard time writing longer poems like I see some others do. So, I am delighted that you read and reviewed both :)

You invite the reader into your poem by challenging the reader to think of the keys. Personification with the keys gives even more sense of invitation. The message is clear that white and black keys must work together to find harmony and by extension society must do the same to find harmony. You have packed a lot into a simple verse that isn't so simple after all.

Nice use of the ivory and ebony metaphor.

Insightful observation, true of all art:

We play fine ...on the surface
But depth is missing

Without the harmony of the black keys
There is no soul
To our music

Nice near rhyme of keys and masterpiece.

good use of spacing and font to sculpt cadence and highlight words and ideas.

My only suggestion is to trim out the period at the end, since the poem has no other end-line punctuation.

Lovely presentation. What a fun challenge!

Warmly, rd

Thank you, RD. I have removed the period, per your suggestion. I get twisted on punctuation in free verse. I think I need to take a class this year. Again, thanks for stopping and leaving this just awesome review!

Fabulous job Missy! :)
I love this! You did a fantastic job using the different keys on the piano to express how to put together a song to create a masterpiece. I love the description that you used. Great imagination.

GIRL!!! You are just the most wonderful fan, to me. I have been a horrible fan and I have missed one or 2 of your wonderful chapters in Chaos. I read the latest but am searching for the one where Kara is killed. grrr.
    Love ya, sweetie!

    Always your biggest fan,

Musically speaking you are of course quite right. The Key of E with four sharps is a much more exciting key than C with nothing but boring white notes, and that vibrant brass bands and much of Jazz is played in B flat (two black notes). An interesting comment on the picture.

A very nice interpretation of the Picture This challenge. I like how you have used the black and white keys to bring this to harmony and creating a masterpiece.
