Hi Brett,

Well isn't that just the way of the world? Work harder and harder for a better life but those you work hard for slip further away.

A keenly observed and well written piece.

Many workaholics would easily relate to the lyrics. It is smooth flowing and simple that makes it enjoyable read. It is a paradox that man in his search for better living sacrifices his leisure and family life by working harder and harder.

What a quaint poem is what I said. The story of working, drinking, doctor visit, girlfriend and I'm sure there are other images I'm missing. But, I enjoyed the story of the guy. And by the way, I liked him. His lovable personality came through. Nice poem.

Beautiful lyrics, wonderful creation. The hardworking man begs for his wife not to give up on him. I must admit, I can relate very well to this one. I keep working very hard for our future, but my wife is having hard time to understand what I am doing. I have to balance my time for my wife and my work, its not that easy.
I enjoyed reading your work. Thank you for sharing.

Well done Brett, beautifully written in smooth free verse, do you have accompanying music, or just Lyrics Brett? Nicely composed, the theme is right, the lyrics flow with a lovely fluidity, for something that doesn't rhyme, there is a lot of couplets that do, even proximates, I used to write them just like that, the rhyme creeps in because it belongs there, consciously or subconsciously, whatever, well done, blessings, Roy

I like your lyrics and most of the songs that are sung these days do not have a definite rhyme to them, they just seem to tell a story like you have written here. Have you submitted any of what you have written to any artists? Rather than singles, it might go over better or give a better selection if you submitted the published work. Great job and good luck.

So Brett, these are song lyrics, then? Me lika lot! (I don't know why I just did that). I did like your lyrics though. I was unaware of your verse. I believe the only thing I've read of yours was prose.

I love your bridge: "So, build a bridge, drive a van
Come on, baby, take my hand."

Is that what songwriters call it? A bridge? I always get into trouble being something I'm not. Whatever it is I enjoy the repetition of it.

I am a Country music lyricist first. I presently have 42, or so, All-Time Best lyrics posted on this site. I also dabble in other forms of short stories. Glad you enjoyed these lyrics. A fun little ditty expressing the hard working man's plight in too many cases. Your comments and support appreciated.

Nice job as you have created a great piece of poetry which are lyrics as I see it. You are so very creative with your formatting of wording towards music. Great Job.

Oh yes, as they say, too much work makes a man a dull boy. LOL. Yes, love and work is a balancing game. We need to devote equal time for family and work to make things work perfectly. Your poem emphasized that message I guess. Thanks for sharing.
