I'm English, and must admit to being rather 'surprised' at his huge following. He is a total prat, and should be locked up. Saying that, we have a few prats in our in our government, and we are mostly all hoping the new shadow labour leader will be ousted before election time. Good luck with yours, your poem is brilliant. xsx Sandra

Thanks much, it just seems like we have more prats, and less common-sense in our candidates now!

No one could have said it better. How we must look throughout the world, a world which we used to lead and set an example; 90 people per day die of gunshots in the country alone, 90 a day! You quote from Air Force One, but a lot of the 'republicans' gladly quote from he tv show 24, saying we need more Jack Bauers. Sad testimonial on our leadership(?) in congress. Well done.

Thanks for the 6 rating, Arnie, and it is indeed a sad commentary on our wanna-be leaders!

Our poet sprouts common sense in every verse touched with a bit of wisdom! A most engaging piece but is poetry with its preoccupation with a sense of beaut y the right platform for hailing and saluting politics which might just be the lowest form of human expression (Gandhi) because it is the exploitation of other people. If it is for the good of others, my question is; what other people. In sum, poetry is built for grander things. Let me conclude with a contradiction. Take this magnificent poetic line; "The shot that rang around the world..." ( Note the cadence and alliteration) of this cheap, propagandist reference to the American Civil War . Best wishes; -Ekim777

Thanks, Ekim77, and I guess I'm a realist, that's just my writing style..

Very well said and most timely.

I especially like your choice of words... the ultimate reality show, playing out.

Very good job indeed.

Thank you much, Friday, and there's no other way to describe it, it's ridiculous!

I like the themes of this poem and it's obviously very timely. I found the rhythm a bit hard at times when I was reading it out loud but that could say more about me than you.

The world is in control with raging lunatics, and the band played on. We listen to the mass media tell its lies and spread its fear, and the band played on. The war machine is grinding away and killing our souls every day, and the band played on...

You have written a very good political commentary on our lunatic fringe, and the band played on... John

Thanks, John, and I hope the band changes its tune, soon, but I don't hold out much hope!

The real shocker is the support he's receiving. Jeesh! I thought it would be a hoot and some great fodder for comedians and then the polls came out. OMG! The Country has gone to hell! You have it on the money here. He reminds me of a pro wrassler except they admit they're just playing a part for entertainment.
A well written piece by the way. Great use of enjambment with an easy flow, unforced rhymes and smooth meter. An easy read that I hope wakes at least a couple people up. Well done. mikey

Thanks you much, Michael, and I hope this slaps some people in the face, and screams, "WAKE UP, what are you thinking!", but nothing has so far!

Mike Stevens, this is a very well written poem. I enjoyed the honesty of this piece. It mirrors a lot of what people think. There are a lot of people who think and don't do and then there those that don't think and do - The 'Red Necks'. Thank you for voicing and sharing your thoughts in a poem.

An interesting overview of the fear and hate ebellished within politics as we elect and celebratea leader who makes promises that may never be fulfilled and holds racist views that incites hatred among the people while they themselves hold extremist opinions destroying the reality of the American Dream. Well written, full of satire but an option well thought out and rendering an unspoken challenge for change!

very good very well written well versed reads very well You did a really great job on this. i think Trump if anything is waking up a lot of people, If it were really up to obama i think he'd have us lay down our weapons and give up. We need someone like trump to wake us up before that happens.

Thanks, William, but I respectfully disagree, I think electing Trump would be a disaster of gigantic proportions.

I didn't say i'd vote for him, just said he's waking America up a bit to some stuff.

No, you didn't, but I think his kind of 'strength' is dangerous and ignorant macho shit!
