Yep, you're pretty much right on the money - that is exactly what we think in this part of the globe!

It's not the worry that people like Trump exist - we have arseholes down here as well. The real worry is that he has so many supporters, and I know from previous posts that there are quite a few right here on FS.

You also mix into the recipe the love affair with guns which is beyond the comprehension of most New Zealanders, where even rank and file police are not armed. We give a shrug, say, 'Americans are crazy,' and get on with our peaceful lives, secure in the knowledge that we have never had a school massacre.

Thank you, and the fact we tolerate guns is bad enough, but any changing the gun laws, even slightly, to make it a little more difficult for someone who shouldn't have one to get one, the NRA freaks out and starts screaming that this change is only the first step until all the guns are taken from private citizens, and we'll all be powerless to stop them. Two points on that. One, is that I fail to see what good a militia of drunks is going to do against an a trained army, and two, the government isn't out to do any such thing. That's paranoid talk!

I am not American but it is evident what and who you are talking about. We only see what the media passes on but your fears are shared by others in other countries, I only hope the information has been exaggerated. It is not for me to criticise another's country, but I think it is important that the inhabitants speak their mind if they think things are wrong, or going wrong. Well done.

Thank you, and I'll continue to speak out against the dangers electing a hate-filled ego-maniac, and the damage he would do to this country, and frankly, the entire world. He's already caused major damage to our reputation, so in that sense, it's already too late!

My sentiments exactly! I ask myself-Is this nation going back to the world of racism and sexism? And the hatred in men unleashed by this one man who just utters words to trump up. I say, "Don't be trumped-up! Let the real trump come out" to lead with equality and compassion! The power of your ideas is very well written in this poem. Thank you for sharing.

This is an amazing write... feeling like an essay but arranged and rhymed like a poem. You do make a lot of sense, and I'm sure your words echo the thoughts and feelings of many Americans who think "Surely he can't become the Republican nominee!" I'm truly baffled by his high poll numbers, but then, the pollsters must be asking the wrong people. I cling to the hope that somehow one of the intelligent, more capable and sensible candidates will, in the end, prevail. I thank you for posting this. Hopefully it will accomplish some good. Send it to a few newspapers, too. It is well organized and easy to understand, and though biased, quite sensible in my opinion.

Thank you, Merri, and I think that surely (don't call me Shirley!) the Republicans will turn to one of their more-moderate candidates, but then I remember there ARE none! Well, at least one that isn't so crude and egotistical!

Well, this is a well written spirited poem with some very good thoughts. I would have to take exception to your thoughts on gun control, though. The 2nd amendment was enacted to prevent nut jobs like Trump from seizing complete control. Take a look at Nazi Germany, once Trump, er Hitler took control, the first thing he did was confiscated private held guns. As for the American dream. it's a myth that was created in the 50's. If we could get beyond the so called American dream propaganda, we might understand the rest of the world better. I don't want to offend you any way, these are just some thoughts inspired by your well thought out poem.

Thank you, and no offence taken. I could NEVER see the American people sitting back and standing for anything like what happened in Germany. As soon as the government announced everyone had to turn in their guns, people would throw a shit-fit. Even though I can see people thinking along those lines, I respectfully submit that it's a fear of The Invisible Man--it's not real. Now, it is I who hope I didn't offend?

Mike, nobody loves you more on this site than me; but I disagree with most of this even though I understand your views. Also, I respect these views, but I simply lean right and am, I suppose a redneck, American who has no problem with gun, except in the wrong hands. As for religion, I'll forget that for now, but I think things require a drastic change and it won't please everyone. Take care. great job, my good friend.

Well, Bruce, I don't have a problem with RESPONSIVELY owning a gun, either, I have a BIG problem with the UNRESPOSIBLE, and I don't see the criteria ever changing, as long as the NRA has so much power. Anybody can buy a gun, no questions asked. . Thank you for the 6 stars, and for respecting my right to speak out against what as see as willful stupidity.
reply by Kingsrookviii on 15-Dec-2015
Oh, about gun owners. I agree that too many stupid people have them, but all the criminals do --- consider that. And YOU aren't stupid, funny as heck - yes. A Dreamer - yes. A great guy - yes. Stupid - no.

Thanks Bruce, 'I'm NOT stupid, I'm not!' See, even Bruce thinks that!

The piece is apt for the times.
It rhymes and flows nicely.
I could not agree more on the gullibility of people.
Why anyone takes him seriously is beyond me.
The really disturbing thing is that if you look at the rest of the field
he is not that far removed from the rest of them. Well done.

Good use of rhymed couplets
I share your sentiments and to be honest sometimes I refused to listen to what people in these positions, or trying to attain such, have to say.Nice piece

Thanks, EMRP, and I try to get away from listening to him, but the media seems to be wearing their knee pads, so they can kiss his backside in comfort. What's so troubling, is that the media wouldn't show him on a loop, if there weren't so many viewers. Why do they fall for his hateful rhetoric?

A very opportune time to write this piece. I don't wonder what the world thinks. We know. I wonder what his followers think or if their is any rational thought. Good work on this piece. My only feed back is work on the flow of this sentence. 'over what's real, or, maybe he has. Maybe this macho shit
is his take on everything--the thought of dealing with bad guys doesn't bother him a bit.' Nothing wrong, it just lacks flow. Have a great day and may rational minds overcome.

Thank you, and you've sure got that right--it sometimes seems like his supporters think it's 'cool' that a celebrity like him (personally, I can't see WHY he's famous!) could be president. They'll claim that he tells it like it is, but if by 'it' they mean rude, hateful, and distrustful (I also don't believe he actually believes the garbage he's spewing, he just says what he thinks people want to here, that there's a simplistic reason for ALL our problems, others!) is blessing us by being willing to run. If he wins, lord help us!

Hi Mike - a worthy rant! But you criticize America with all its failings, but I am English and really, I could rant about our failings. We are fed so much propaganda, lies and rubbish on TV and news bulletins that it is becoming tiresome even to watch it. Donald Trump has to be admired in as much as this madman has the nerve to stand up and spout out rubbish and hope to be President. Heaven bid for the sake of America and the rest of the world. This man has to be a penny short of a pound - Regards Dorothy

Thank you, Dorothy, and it's somehow comforting to know that we're not the only ones who think T.V. is A Wasteland of Less Than Nothing, no, I feel for you, and me!
